I was getting into my car ('02 2.5 RS) when my next door neighbor called walks over to the fence and asked me what happened to my truck. (I drove a Silverado before I got my Impreza). I informed him that I had seen the light and traded it in for a car; a real car. Here's the kicker, he then went on to ask me if it was a new Kia. Is it a KIA?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? "No.", I calmly replied, "It's the new Impreza." . I get in my car and I drive away.

A week later, I stop at a 7-11 to cure a case of the late-night munchies. As I'm opening the door to get back in my car, a rent-a-cop asks me if my Impreza is the new Geo Prizm. "Yes it is" , I proudly reply. His thick accent made Geo Prizm sound like Impreza, and after playing his question back inside my brain, I realized what he really asked me. "Nawww, man!", I almost yell, "It's the new Impreza." He gives me a puzzled look. "The new Subaru Impreza.", I continue. He then asked me "Who makes it, GMC?" Again, I get in my car and I drive away.

Now, I realize the new Impreza doesn't look like a Lamborghini, but COME ON. A Kia? A Geo? I'll bet you if it was an Excursion, they'd know what it was.:mad: :rolleyes: :confused:

Texas is not know for its car enthusiasts :p

Hmmm, I am constantly asked if it's a new WRX. To which I reply, "Yes, it is". Once, a kid asked if it had a "super turbocharger". I said it was adequate.:lol:

People are generally ignorant about cars. Have pity.

I generally tell people who have to ask that it's a neon with a body kit.

Edit: The tire quote. I was driving from Vegas to Oregon and had 2 people comment on my tires within 15 minutes. "Them some kind of new tire." I'm thinking *** is this dude talking about. Then he pointed out how thin they are. I started to explain sidewall flex, but thought better of it...

I swear about 10 kids in High School all drive the same year Mustang....its not even funny...and they are all black or white...

I drove up to the gas station and as I pull in...this guy is looking at my tires...as I got out I looked at him and said...whats up? he said...well when you pulled in...it sounded like you blew a tire...I chuckled...rev'ed the engine to let him hear the BOV...

That I can understand...

Change your lights...thats what I did...so they don't think its a neon...

Eh... that's what you get for living in Texas ;) I swear there are people in the midwest and south that don't know there are cars made outside the US. Around here, I just get people asking if it's a WRX all the time :D

Well, I went to a mitsu dealer yesterday to drop off my old leased eclipse and I swear every damn mitsu salesman dropped what they were doing and came out to look at it. I think some even left their customers (crazy salesman). I left my girlfriend in the car just in case they wanted to "kick the tires" or something. They all thought it was awesome. Nobody even mentioned the EVO. I asked, and they said "maybe next year".

Poseidon - I can back you up on the midwest thing. I live in Wisconsin and almost everyone has a SUV, bigger SUV, or pickup truck...and the occasional Beretta GT with a big Chevy banner in the windshield.

However, once you get into Madison and Milwaukee, you start seeing the imports... within 5 blocks of me there are 2 SVX's, 2 "old school" Eclipses with body kits, a good looking Prelude, 3 ITRs, and my RS. Not bad!

I always have people pull up beside me and ask if its a WRX. Even today at the body shop the guy who was doing an estimate (I was rear ended the other day) asked if it was a WRX.

yea, people ask if my car is a WRX all the time. More than ever now for some odd reason. I've told this story many times, but I'm gonna tell it again:

I was at the Subaru dealership sitting infront of my car, when a salesman walks up to me. Looks at my car, and asks me if it was a new WRX. I just looked at him... there was a WR Blue WRX sitting on the lift infront of us...

I was at Valvoline getting my coolant changed, and I over heard two employees (one cornfed farmer kid, and another "normal" guy) arguing about how to pronounce the name of the car. Farmerboy said ImprEEza considering it had an 'E' and an 'A'. The other guy said Impreza (the correct way). I had to chime in, and upon hearing he was wrong, farmerboy said "sorry if I can't speak Subaru."

I was also asked what the radiator thing is on top of my engine. :p

well it is a radiator....just for air :lol:

That reminds me...
When I got my oil changed...the guy looked at the intercooler and said...ok...well...I'm not sure about turbos but ... is that for cooling air?

I was actually shocked he figured it out...

The guy under the car said...for air? what do you need to cool the air going into the engine for...

needless to say...he said he was a Mustang guy...

hell, there's some new suzuki hatchback out there that I always mistake for a TS.

I've been ask if mine was a WRX, I said no an Impreza. They said "Just an Impreza?" I reply w/a big smile "Yup, JUST an Impreza." (2.2L turbo Impreza) My friend and I chuckle as we walk away from their lowered honda civic :p

Then last week I went to a parts store looking for brake pads. I tell the guy it was for a Subaru, he asks "Who makes that?" I say Subaru! He says "I think it's a GM." Then I say no a Subaru and point out the name on his monitor. some people are so unobservent :rolleyes:

LOL, I have gotten asked if mine is a wrx so many times. Most of the time after I tell them what is it, they then ask if it is stick...I say no. Usually then they give me a look like your lame then go back to acting cool at the redlight. Next thing they know I drop my car into 3rd, pound the gas in and my cobb intake screams at them for a second as I go off grining like a b*stard :D hahaha it is so funny to see a v6stang driver do a double take as I pass him up with my car at redline :D

happen yet again. this time they asked me if this is the new neon. I said no it is an impreza. The guy got all excited and then said what happen to the hood. I looked at the hood and told him someone stole it. I figgured it would take to much time to explane that subaru has a car called the 2.5rs that looks like the wrx yet doesn't have a turbo. It has a larger engine and it doesn't need the extra drag at highspeeds that the hood scoop give the wrx. Yet... so I think I am going to give up and say that it is a fast neon.

When i was at a car show last month I had some guy and his woman come up to me looking at the rex. They were both looking at it like it was a lotus elise or something. The lady finally mustered up the courage to ask me what it was. Before she could finish her question, the guy interupted her and told her it was "that new BMW" I was like "no, it's a subaru impreza wrx"...he said " a sooba-who???" I just left it at that since it was obviously over his head.

I get a lot of people asking me if it’s a WRX. At first I thought they were crazy because the two cars look so different. But after looking at the WRX commercial I thought that maybe they thought the 2000 WRC flying around the corner is an older WRX (not a U.S. one anyway).

come to think of it.. the back of a WRX and a ECHO do look kinda similar... not that I've ever seen the back of a ECHO or anything ;)

Do any of you guys ever want to ask people "W-T.F do you know?" It seems like most people know very little about very little other than sex and alcohol. That's just my take on things.

I'm not just talking car related either.

I just tell people 'Its a Subaru' and not elaborate further, as most ppl around mean don't know Subies from a horse's ass and i let that swirl in their brains for a little while. I kinda like a quote i saw from somewhere

Some people dont understand that the car looks like this from the factory.....Do you think Subaru owners are dumb enough to spend two grand on an unpainted body kit....
