ok, here's the problem i bought a t3t4 turbo almost brand new for 450$ its a good deal since my friend bought the guys tsi 2g. the turbo doesn't bolt right up. i have a winter car and am planing on dropping the exhaust, headers back, to get it to fit. My uppipe is 1 peice with the headers and don't know if its better to try and make it work by putting a new flang on it or should i get a header and uppipe. money is an issue and would like to conserve but i also want reliability. ( IF anyone has suggestions about which injectors boost controller, and fuel rail to get that would be great and what else should be done to the motor.) should i send stock uncapped injectors out to get flow tested.
current mods:
fmic mrt
full exhaust 3" no cats
short ram injen
utec : to be tuned
plugs 1 step colder
soon: working on getting sti 6 speed
thanks in advance - mike

T3/t4 has a different bolt pattern for your uppipe than your buddies DSM did
The cheapest thing would be to hack off the 2bolt flange on the end and weld up a 4bolt, but thats also the most ghetto thing to do as well.
Is the turbo external or internally gated? If it doesnt have an internal gate, you're going to have to weld up something on the uppipe for an external wastegate as well. You're going to need a new downpipe as well, as the stock (or aftermarket) DP that bolted onto your stock turbo will not fit the t3/t4 either. You could hack the end off and reweld, but again, thats sort of ghetto rigging.
Injector wise, the stock injectors with the caps removed should flow 740cc, but depending on the fuel pressure can flow quite a bit more than even that. I'm pretty sure 740 will be good for what you're doing, but it depends on the t3/t4
I would suggest searching the crap out of this topic on the boards and reading alot. Fabricating a garret turbo setup is no easy task and many vendors are selling kits for upwards of 3grand for a reason.
good luck

yeah, ghetto is nice but is it reliable? if it can be done i definatly know the guy to do it, 49yrs old and welding since 14. i believe the turbo has an external waste gate, and there is now way i can afford 3grand or more for that matter but i'll search and look around. thanks again- mike

there's nothing wrong with fabricating a solution to a problem. if it's done well it's hardly ghetto. with what you want to do, welding is not the hard part. i've watched a lot of guys do it and it looks easy.
(stop hyperventilating...it's a joke)
