View Full Version : Skid plate interest?
GooseMan 05-30-2001, 08:34 AM Hey all. I know I've asked this before, but now I plan on being more serious this time.
I work for a reputable sheet metal (http://www.electronmetal.ca) shop in Montreal, Quebec (Canada). We make metal cabinet and enclosure for the telcommunications industry, which, in all honesty, gets kind of boring! Since we can make practically anything from sheet metal (or sheet aluminum), I would like to know if you guys are interested in aluminum skid plates for Imprezas/Foresters. I have pics posted up on my site here (http://www.geocities.com/goosesl2.geo/pics/skidplate02.jpg) (try the link a few times, or just paste the URL, stupid Geocities is unreliable).
We also have the ability to make the rear diff cover, but I'd need one to copy. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
I don't have pricing yet, but the front plate should cost around or less than $150 US. It will be made fromt either 3/16" or 1/8" aluminum. 'll make a prototype this week, and if all goes well, I'll try to organize a group buy. Gimme feedback gang!

jay25RS 05-30-2001, 09:42 AM I would love to buy a front skid plate for my '01 RS and a rear differential protector made out of aluminum rather than the steel one's that Subaru sells. I would definetly be interested first in the front skid plate though. Currently, I am without a job but am looking really hard (hey this gives me an incentive.) Well, a couple of questions, does the front skid plate allow you to change the oil and the oil filter without removal? Is the aluminum strong enough to use as a jack point on the car? Thank you. I am trying to get some money. I will let you know when I could do it.
P.S. I build computers so if you know anyone that wants some awesome gaming machines let me know!
GooseMan 05-30-2001, 10:02 AM DAMON-----Try to get into my "pics" folder and click on the "skidplate.jpg" images. I know its a PITA, but it works! Dont mind the other pics...hehehe
JAY25RS----No, you will have to remove the skid plate to change the oil. Its bolted on with only (4) bolts, so its very easy to remove. If you'll be changing your oil yourself, it takes literally 5 mins to remove it! If its changed at the dealer, they should have no problem removing it, mine does it all the time, no charge. Like I said, four bolts. I'd cut holes in it for the filter, but I want it to protect EVERYTHING so there are no hole.
I'm not sure its strong enought as a jack pont, I never tried, but it is PLENTY strudy. I don't have a rear one made yet, so I can't be sure.
Thanks!

eastbaysubaru 05-30-2001, 10:08 AM I am definitely interested, especially because of this past weekend's rallyX. There were quite a few large stones/rocks that I could have used some protection from, especially since I was driving my g/f's RS. I WILL be getting one soon, and this one looks as good as any of the others that I've seen. I'll be keeping an eye out in the classified's. PM me when you get ready to start selling.

jeffg 05-30-2001, 10:45 AM I have seen a lot of people selling skid plates. How about some other pieces. Like more armor for the underside of the car. That would be special. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
GooseMan 05-30-2001, 11:15 AM Just FYI, this skid plate (if you have not seen the pics yet) is not as elaborate as the Primitve one, or as expensive. If youre running a serious rally car, I would, by all means, get the Primitive one. If youre looking for a cheaper alternative, this ones the way to go. It does pretty much the same job. I've had mine on since last fall, and driven over all kinds of frozen ice and snow with it (trust me, Canadaian snow is much harder than American snow, especially at -20 http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif ).
Does anyone know if it will fit MY02 Imprezas? Do they have the same mounting points? One can be developed for WRX's......

cvalle-sd 05-30-2001, 02:59 PM If it's reasonably low-cost, and reasonably lightweight, I'd like one. I have a factory rear diff protector if anyone needs a model for a similar aluminum piece.
cRayZee 05-30-2001, 05:03 PM pics, please?
