I'm looking for a shift light that I can stick in that almost useless DIN pocket or mold into a custom gauge pod.

Do the shift lights that just plug into the lighter socket actually work reliably?

I was looking at the STRI shift lights on e-bay, and they seem to be about what I want, for what I want to pay, but there's no mention of tapping into the tach wire. I'd cut off the lighter plug, and hard wire it.
