sup folks,

i went to dealer and they asking ~$500 to install (parts & labor) for 2002 fog lights.

i think thats crazy

was think is it possible i could do it myself?

and is it worth getting the fog lights or a waste of money

those of you whos had it in the winter season (snow), and summer (heavy rains). does it help with visability?

thanks folks

It helps, espically if you have yellow foglamps.

Check here: http://www.rallylights.com/hella/500.asp

Get the foglamp kit (clear or amber) and the WRX specific bracket. You'll have to wire them up yourself (or get someone to help you :) ) but it'll only cost about $110 and be better than the OEM foglamps. I'm not sure though if the screws for the foglamps (3 for each side) are already on the car though so you may need to pick those up from the dealer but they shouldn't cost too much.

Why is yellow better than clear?

yea, get the 500s in yellow fog pattern.
also, get the factory fog switch from subaru (like 40 bucks)
and wire it up yourself. very simple.

Yellow light doesn't get refracted and diffused as easily as white and white/blue light in the rain and snow. Yellow light also enhances contrast in inclement weather. On top of that, it doesn't cause as much glare when it's reflected back into your eyes which can possibly lead to eye strain and fatigue.

All of these advantages are definitely debatable (and have been debated plenty of times), but i like the yellow light mostly for the first reason i listed because i've seen it first hand in the rain. :)

Also, ask yourself why you want fog lights. If you want them for driving around the city to *ahem* improve your visability to other drivers, then white might be best. If you live someplace that gets a lot of rain, fog or white-out snowstorms than yellow might be better. If you need to see better/farther on dark roads at night then driving lights might be better than fog lights.

thanks so much for your reply

and everyone else for their opinions

i placed the order for the hella 500s today along with a stock fog light switch.

how hard would it be to wire it to the stock fog light switch??

does it come with relays itself? harness? screws and such to mount and everything?

would i still be able to do the fog light mod even with an aftermarket fog lights

anyone here own them? tried them in rain/snow? better visability?...
what color bulb do you have in there?

sorry for all the questions

you just plug it in, your TS is already wired for everything.

just plug in the switch, the fog relay(third relay socket from bottom next to fuses in the dash) and mount the foglights to your bumper.

fog light mod will work just the same since you are using the same exact wiring.

i have optilux 1180 fogs and they're not as nice as the hella 500s but even the cheap optilux make a significant difference. you won't be dissapointed!

to recap-

stock fog switch

stock fog relay(any 55w 30amp relay)

foglights wired into stock foglight plug connectors
