Hi guys, I have an 03 WRX. The CE lights has been blinking for several weeks.
I didnt take it to autozone to have the code read.
The seller who was the original owner told me that it was because of the downpipe or something like that. (i can't remember).

Anyway, today, I tried to fix my turbo timer. Then fix my factory alarm so I can arm the car while the timer is running.
After I cut the dark green wire on the Keyless entry module above the fuse box, my CE lights is gone.

Is this normal??

I have no idea. Help!

What was the code when you had it checked?

Ok, if it was blinking, that's a bad thing... a really bad thing.

It should still be stored the ECU. You should get it checked. And ya blinking is very bad.

Ok, I've called a couple places to read the engine codes. But they're charging me $150 just to read the code?!?!?!?

Anyone know somewhere else cheaper? I'm in san francisco.

Did you have the two green connectors plugged together under the drivers side dash? That can make the CEL flash constantly as it activates a diagnostic mode for the ECU. It may have gone away if the wire you cut was from one of those connectors. The green plugs should be left disconnected, and if this is indeed what happened you probably cut the wrong wire as it should not have had any affect on the diagnostic connectors or the CEL.
I'd suggest getting some help from a shop or someone with more experience before you cut any more wires.
Oh, and if the car had a CEL from a catless downpipe with no "fix" installed the light would be on steadily, not flashing.

Autozone charge me for $150. It's weird.

Mulder, I cut the green wire on the Factory alarm module. It shouldn't affect anything. I followed the instruction from this forum. And, I didnt cut anything from the two connector you're talking about.
that's why its weird.

Hm, I know that in CA Autozone won't do free scans like they do in other states. But I was under the impression that they would allow you to borrow the scanner for a deposit and do it yourself? Maybe try a different Autozone, or ask for help in your local forum from someone with a scanner. Depending on why the light was/is flashing there may not be any codes stored.
No, if you really cut a wire from the security module it shouldn't affect whether the CEL flashes or not.
It's possible the wiring in this car has been modified by a previous owner, I'd suggest you get the factory wiring manual and start looking around.

Yes I'm sure I cut the wire from security module. That's why it's weird.
Anyone in SF have engine code reader???
Do you think I can buy the code reader, use it, then refund it?

Code readers are available at walmart for <$100.

And they have a 30 day refund policy... But I kept mine because it can erase the CEL too, or reset the ECU whenever I want to.

I can't find it in Walmart.com

Walmart is too far from my place. Any other options?

I found a few code readers on ebay. Some of them are expensive, some only 30 bucks.

what's the difference?

the $30 ones are probably vehicle specific. one for ford, GM, and chrystler.

The more expensive ones will do things like real time data graphing/logging, essentially functioning as extra guages, but be warned, the subaru sample rate is very slow.
