offset 10-03-2005, 04:55 PM If I remember correctly, that is the same material my Prodrive Group-N knob is made of; and I absolutely love the feel of it. But mine was quite a bit more money than this, so this looks like a good deal. Free bump for a nice looking shift knob.

Adrift 10-05-2005, 04:29 PM is the shorter 6-speed knob the same price? Do you take paypal, and if so what is your paypal address? what are the color choices?
dentsport 10-05-2005, 09:54 PM There is Black/White...it looks like the one black we have in stock is spoken for though. We can make you another in short order if you want a black one. We still have white ones in stock.
The 6mt is the same price, that is correct. Just make sure to let us know it is for a 6mt.
We do take paypal as well as credit card, check, money order, and cash. Let me know what color you'd like and we'll get that shipped out to you ASAP. Thanks:)

shane86 10-10-2005, 09:06 PM What is this actually made of? Aluminum? Steel?
i ask because up here in the frigid north, metal knobs aren't so friendly to grab first thing on a winter morning.
dentsport 10-10-2005, 11:36 PM It is made of Delrin. It doesn't get as cold during the winter or as hot during the summer. That is one reason why it makes a great shift knob:D

garie 10-19-2005, 11:45 AM any clues as to the differences b/w the 1st and 2nd design? I want to get a black one.

randolph-rs 10-29-2005, 12:23 PM Is the knob weighted or is it solid delrin?
I am asking because a solid delrin knob is not moderately heavy. Not even as heavy as the stock knob. Will the black knobs scuff or scratch easily? I have seen other delrin knobs priced well above what you are asking and still I do not understand why. Delrin is nothing more than high strength, high quality machinable plastic. It is not that expensive nor is it difficult to machine so I do not understand why other vendors price a delrin shift knob upwards of $100 or more. As far as I know black delrin is less expensive than 6061 aluminum. What will your new design be like? I am interested in seeing it. When will you have it available? Thanks.
dentsport 10-29-2005, 02:47 PM It is solid Delrin. Delrin, at least where we get it from, is not actually that cheap...although it's certainly not the most expensive material. The knobs are very scratch resistent and hold up well over time.
I will try and post some pictures of the differences in the two designs, although they are not different to an extreme. I will post up information sometime soon. Thanks again to all those who have bought knobs:)
We still have some white/black ones left, thanks:)

garie 11-03-2005, 11:51 PM bump for pics of the 2nd design.
shad0wxb0i 11-04-2005, 01:27 AM For the second design can you guys make a little wedge on the bottom of the shift knob so our shift boots can be held in place? or do the shift knobs have something like that already?
Bimmubishi 11-04-2005, 09:44 PM We could do that. Can you MS paint me a diagram of what you mean?
Alex@dentsport.com
shad0wxb0i 11-10-2005, 01:06 AM i got this from the Oakos.com website.
you can see clearly that at the bottom of the knob there is an indentation where you can slip on the shiftboot onto the bottom of the shift knob. Do you think you guys can create something similar to this?
http://www.oakos.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/KB-015.jpg
FromageTheDog 11-10-2005, 01:17 AM +1 for including a shift-boot lip for this knob. I wouldn't even consider it otherwise...
dentsport 11-10-2005, 11:41 AM No it does not come with the lip...for the 6MT this does not matter as you have the reverse lockout and the boot attaches underneath. For the 5MT we've had customer's figure out some mounting solutions, i will ask them about it. I will also post some pics of the knob on a 5MT. Thanks all:)

That shift boot looks similiar to older L model shift boots. Maybe take a look on subaru parts and see how similiar it is.
No this is a very scratch resistent piece actually. It holds up extremely well over time.:D

We include a 30mins over the phone install session which includes relearning how your 6mt works, where the gears are and how to shift all over again. We also include many in depth diagrams, charts and theoretical musings about how the new shift knobs affect your life. Believe me this was a major concern for us when designing the knob :p
We have you guys down to be contacted when we get some 1st designs ready to ship again...thanks guys:)

PoorGuysSTi 12-05-2005, 06:28 PM Hey I'm still interested, I see you are in the boston area. :) Can you make one for an Acura? Also I looked over the site but not sure if you guys do any tuning.
Bimmubishi 12-06-2005, 10:00 PM The Acura is most likely M10*1.5 TPI. We only have them available in M10*1.25 and M12*1.25 Sorry man.
On the questions regarding the physical properties of delrin.. It was developed by Dow about 50 years ago as a metal substitute after WWII. Delrin is not heat conductive, which you will notice in the winter when your hand freezes to your metal knob. It is similar in feel and weight to Aluminum and machines smoothly without developing hairs or cracks. It's heavier than most other polymers that we come across in daily life.
Our shop is in Norwood, only about 15 minutes outside of Boston give or take with traffic. We specialize in fabrication and as of right now we don't do tuning but we do set up and work with major brands of piggyback and stand alone systems- Cobb, AEM, Greddy, Motec, Autronic.
We do other work like general installs, engine swaps, rotary engines, engine building, welding of all types, Ti, Alu, Stainless and mild steel. We have a contract machinist with 3 and 5 axis CNC mills, a CNC lathe and a metal finishing facility which we have put to good use lately.
Thanks for the inquiry.

Dendrobium 12-15-2005, 04:14 PM Bump for a great shift knob!
I ordered both the V1 and the V2 shift knob from Louis and Alex.
I must say Louis and Alex are both EXCELLENT to deal with -- even with me being all the way up here in Canada.
I've only recently received the V2 shift knob -- which I was glad to find came nicely packed, complete with a dentsport decal, some shimming washers, and no extra duty/brokerage fees!
I have yet to put it on my car, but it feels AWESOME in hand. The weight of the knob is indeed ~50-60% heavier than stock (I measured it on a scale compared to the stock knob) and the delrin material is smooth, grippy, almost slightly porous and sweat-wicking. It also quickly warms up to your hand's temperature, far quicker than any metal and probably on par or better than leather knobs.
I can't wait to try both my V1 and V2 knobs -- if you are looking for a knob that is not very "showy" and is all "business" and pure "functionality" this is the knob for you!
I will be sure to update my "shift knob shootout" thread with both V1 and V2 versions once I receive and install them both.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=554001&highlight=shift+knob+shootout
So far, I'm actually liking the shape of the V2 version -- but I have yet to receive my V1 version.
Thanks Dentsport! esp. Louis and Alex!

wrx-boy 05-13-2006, 10:21 AM For those intersted in ways to keep the shift boot up...this is what I discovered...IT's EASY!!
I simply put the shift knob on (screwed on) and then took some black electrical tape and began to tape up the shifter until it made a tapered bump...like this...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v715/wrx-boy/bootDown.gif
...once it was just a little bit wider than the shift boot opening, you just slide the boot over the tape and bam...done!!
