View Full Version : Not good-Remote start works with car in gear

so I found a shop that installed my Clifford RSX 3.5 remote start with alarm on my 03 M/T WRX. It worked great for about a year. If you hit the break without the key, it would shut down and if you tried to put in gear without the key turned it would shut down. But for some reason, now, you can slip the car into gear and it stays on. Depressing the break without the key still shuts it off. I dont live around this dealer anymore and am looking to fix the problem myself. Can anyone offer some advice?

what would kick it off before, was it the fact that it was going into gear or was it when you pushed in the clutch?

probably a loose connection or cold solder joint on the clutch safety switch. check the wire in the plug right above where the clutch is mounted. they probably tapped the wire there.

They bypassed the clutch when they installed it. It would actually be the slipping it into gear that would set it off. Sounds like I got a bad install.

Check where they tapped the neutral safety switch, which is at the ECU, under the carpet of the front passenger seat. See if the connection is good. If so, you may have a bad neutral sensor. If the connection is bad, fix it.

See the "Ultimate Alarm/Remote Start" thread in the stickies for the color of the wire. Good luck.

+1 for the neutral safety switch
