As my engine is being rebuilt I have much going through my small brain, With the recent unfortunate death of In walk turtle's bro, the flipping of TMR and the utter destruction of my engine the idea of a trade in has more than once played with my synapses. Even if I were a rich man I would still wish to own at least one Subaru. But for now the idea of a legacy wagon is crossing my mind. Wagons are slick, fly, flash and all that jazz and I would like one. Financially the TS is my most viable option but it is missing out on various parts I would desire. RS does not some in a wagon (dumb move Subaru). WRX would be just too irresponsible at my still immature stage in life. I would without a doubt get into trouble. So, I am left with Forrester or Legacy. Ideally I would like to buy new so as not to run into problems left by previous owners. Forrester would be fun to fix up as there are few if any already done up. Legacy too, but it would not be as unique. Any thoughts on this topic would be appreciated. I might just also keep my Kuro Neko (present vehicle).

Really, it takes a really mature person to admit such a thing, you probably are ready for it. Just treat her with respect, and she'll treat you right.

My choices for you in order:

1. WRX
2. Legacy GT Sedan.
3. TS Wagon.

Ive never met you, but you do not sound like a Forester driver at all. I love the Forester and all, but its just not the car for our stage in life. :) Yet.

And I agree about the RS not coming in Wagon trim. My sister would have bought one if it did, but instead will probably buy a P5... I like the P5, but seems like another chintegra.

it with both those cars but I would want to do more to make
it equal the fun of my RS on the track. I think if you met me you
might think I am deserving of the Forrester...especially when you

if i could choose again i would choose the legacy wagon over the 2.5RS but the only thing keeping me back was that it was still the older body style when i wanted to get it(i knew the newer model would be out in a couple of months but didnt want to wait, ended up waiting for white RS:( ) and at the time i thought that the RS would be way faster.....

come to think of it, i really don't need a fast car, as long as it's comfortable i'm cool....

i could have 2 more doors (didn't have 4 door RS back then)......and i just love a nice wagon with rims and lowered....

there's a white legacy wagon in town which i drool over whenever i see it.......

Keep in mind that the Forester is based on the GC8 Impreza platform so I believe that almost all aftermarket parts for the Impreza will fit the Forester.

If you are short in money, I think you should just keep your current RS. Since the engine is being rebuilt, it would be almost like brand new! There are only a few major parts that make up a car. (Engine, drivetrain, body structure) Unless the previous owner abused the drive train but other than that there shouldn't be anything else that goes wrong. The body on your car looks good. Just my thoughts.

Get the legacy!!!! it does fine in autoX if its anything like the old one! haha... I really like the Legacy L wagon, its a really good deal.. and it would still run ok in autoX. It also has rear disc brakes.. almost everything is same as the GT except that it doesn't have painted side moldings, mirros, steel wheels, and different swaybar. I heard that the shock and spring are exactly the same!

Forester.... its a SUV! come on.. don't be turning into those now... its like buying an Outback! :eek:

Find an old Legacy turbo in good shape, then you'll be rockin' the house! :D

Yeah, but you could build one for less than a grand:
Sell stock parts - get $200 maybe
Takeoff RS/WRX wheels - $500
Takeoff RS/WRX brakes - $400
Takeoff WRX wagon suspension - $200
WRX-STi badge - free, just jack Sunny's car :D :D

Then you'd have a nice torquey 2.5 liter with the sporty chassis bits to match.

Frankly you guys drive so slowly in Canada that the WRX feels like an NBA player in a sandbox. My gas mileage here is 15% better than in California, and it's not just because of the moonshine we add to our gas either. So I don't think you'd be unhappy with the 2.5 liter, and you'd have the extra money to spend on other things .. like the Whistler i-Club chapterettes. :D

Oh and Prostho, obviously you haven't seen Alex (Imprezer)'s Ghetto Gangsta Blacker Den Black Forester. :D A typical SUV it is not.

I agree with Avenger. There shouldn't be any more major problems with your '98 after you get the engine done. I believe the block was the biggest issue with them before - owners were overheating a lot. Alex has a used 98 which had some major engine work replaced on it. It would be cool if the dealer is dropping in new MY99 parts into your 98 which will be more better. Maybe get them to look over your drivetrain while there at it. The only other problem you could experience are leaky CV boots, or a bad wheel bearing.

I think if you get anything else besides an Impreza, you might miss the 'chuckability' of it at the auto-x's.

I've seen some pretty damn sweet Foresters in HK.. Body kits and lowered.. and TURBO! hehehe... They look nice and all.. But why pay the extra dough.. U don't get extra space or anything.. The cargo capactiy of legacy wagon is higher than the forester. and IMO, the legacy has better passenger space too.

Penphoe, good idea.. haha.. Legacy Turbo RULES!! ;) but hard to find 5sp and he said he doesn't really want a used car.

Forrester- because it is rare to have one fixed up. I have driven turbo Forresters in Japan and let me tell you the ones that are well fixed up would squash any of the imprezas in Vancouver...save one or two.
Keeping my car is of course an option. My body is not in great shape, the paint is terrible and there are many small details which bug the crap out of me. It would be nice to start over with a new car so that the only damage is because of my own stupidity.

if u don't really want the WRX wagon...go for Forester as it should share most of the chassis parts w/ the 2.5RS....and it would be cool if u have the first done up Forester...since there are a few done up Legacy running around....one older style white wagon, one older style black sedan (someone in the club just did sth to perfect its looking), and the new style white wagon....

YET Naoki's dad is going to build up his Forester later....when he has got all the parts handy it will probably start the work....i think he is talking about the Forester Turbo like u said? which is a 2.5L turbo in Japan???

Legacy is a good move but parts involved is so more expensive than the Impreza or even Forester....

u have to do sth to its suspension if u want to go AutoX w/ the forester....

isn't a bad move....at least u have a 2002 brand new car....that's what GS116 did too? brand new 2002 TS wagon.....hehe....:D

edit: agree w/ avenger or ken too....u pretty much have a new engine and u said u have the clutch replaced....so the leftover is the body?

Hang on to your money, don't settle for anything else than what you wanted. You'll probably be happier if you save up in a year or two and get the WRX wagon. Plus you just rebuilt your engine, why don't you just autox that thing a bit more before you trade it in? If you got something that you don't like, you might regret it for a long time. I've driven the forrester that the dealership loan me when I had my car in repair, although it handles similar to the imperza, I surely love my 00RS 100 times more than the forrester. I drive a grand caravan and my RS, and I could tell you a big car and a small car does make a difference. The forrester though wasn't even comparable to me mini-van, but comparing to the RS, it's way too big and way too high. It's basically good for a family man! SUVs are meant for comfort.
