Let me thank everyone who responds in advance for thier help. Thank you.

I have a couple of old laptops that don't work, but the LCD or TFT (not sure) screens are fine. Is there a way to wire them so that I can use them in the car for video? I am hoping to convert the 13.? power from the wrx to the power lead and then solder leads to the apropriate wires so I can have the female rca plug going to the monitor allowing me to just plug in the xbox video lead.

Thanks again,
R.

i dont think you can do that, you have vga screens and they won't accept rca inputs, well techinically you need you need correct controller card to allow rca inputs.

I did a little research on this a while back and yes, you need a special controller card to hook up the screens. one of those will give you a VGA input. I didn't pursue it much further than that. best of luck to you, and remember to post pix. ;)

Yeah...I was afraid of something like that. I am going to look into it a bit more, but it doesn't sound promising. It will suck if it doesn't work, brcause I have 2 13+ inch screens.

If anyone else has more suggestions/information, please chime in.

Tnaks all,
R.

without the VGA controller that was deisgned for that LCD, you won't be able to get signal into it.

Heres a tidbit from the mp3car.com FAQ sections

A basic LCD monitor you buy over the counter is already prepackaged with everything you need to hook up to a common video input jacks such as VGA, RCA, S-Video. The basic components are LCD screen, controller, and backlight inverter. The controller has an input and output. The input connections are either VGA, RCA, or S-Video. The output then connects to the LCD screen. The backlight inverter takes low voltage power like 12v and steps it up to a few hundred or thousand volts for the backlight to light up the LCD. The higher the wattage, the brighter the screen for daytime viewing. That's another story.
Laptop LCDs come with the LCD screen and the backlight inverter and the backlight built in. It does not have a controller. This is the part that most people dont understand why they cant use a laptop LCD. You need a controller to convert standardized VGA, RCA, S-video signal to non standardized LCD signal.
LCD screens dont cost much. You can buy a laptop LCD screen for a few dollars on ebay though they can get as high as $100-$300. The controller is what's gonna cost you the most.

well i have experimented with this a while ago.. i was able to get a TV tuner working on my 12" LCD.. i used the circut board that came with the screen.. (the inverter, etc).. and for the inputs, i found a site which sold some conveter that made it accept VGA as the input. i cannot remember where i found it.. i remember there was the circuity to build one, or paypal order off the dude. i bought it, and i was able to watch tv on the 12" LCD..

a few months after that, the backlight blew.. the image still comes up, but no light..
it is an old LCD from a OLD laptop.. not worth fixing.. its one of those screens you can only see if you look DIRECTLY infront of it.
