So this WRX is the first car in my life that i've wanted to take care of, but I don't have much time to dedicate to it, nor the $$ for pofesional jobs.
Is it worth it to invest in one of those buffing machines that look like routers (wood, not data ;) ) but with the big wool looking pad? I am thinking of using it mainly to apply and remove wax.
Am I off the wall? Somebody clue me in!!

Well, I don't use one to apply anything, but I will use it to buff out larger areas when I'm feeling lazy. There is a certain amount of the car you will always have to do by hand, but they do save time ;).

they make your hands feel numb, which can be a good or a bad thing. but i love them they are fun fun fun

Jamz......Be careful i don't know if you have any buffer experience but the buffers that i've seen in the past you have to be really careful with the "big wool looking pad", cause you will burn up your paint, and put some serious swirl marks in the paint....also you make sure that the buffer is varible speed i got a pretty good one from sears it was like $50, had it for about 4yrs. works great but i've never used the wool pad. The WRX's paint may not be as bad as the 98-01, just trying to help so be careful pratice on you girlfriends car first and you shouldn't need to buff your car for awhile?

If you are going to get one be very careful and also buy a very good one. You are looking at about $200 or more for a quality one. Anything for like $40 is pretty much crap.
I prefer to do it by hand, you can pay more attention to detail.

I detailed lexus' for a year and we did beautiful work. Theres a lot that goes into detailing besides waxing and washing. Your car shouldn't need to be buffed until there are a lot of swirls in it, I would buff my car 3 times a year or so. To apply wax, do it by hand, unless you want to spend money on a Dual head buffer.
remember to remove all the tar from your car, and wax in the shade.
