My Legacy is starting to rust..and I'm noticing that the quotes to fix it is about the same cost as a pre-MY95 Impreza. I like my Legacy..but for some reason it doesn't feel like my Impreza did (02 RS). It feels like a boat..is actually scary to turn into corners even with all my suspension work. It handles well, but whenever I toss it around I go white-knuckled.

So I'm wondering, what about swapping the drivetrain into an Impreza? Every part I have is for a GC anyway...the only difference I think would be driveshafts, and I'd have to shorten my exhaust a little bit. I have a WRX tranny, rear end and rear axles, so I already have a bit of a conversion. I like my EJ22T and in a lighter, nimbler chassis I think it'd be great.

I'd be taking my current car and swapping whatever I need over to the GC. There should be very little wiring because I'm working with complete harnesses. I'll have the turbo crossmember, and can swap my rear hubs for the drum-brake hubs of early Imprezas.

Anyone have any thoughts?

yup that works just fine axels are the same

yep almost if not all the rear end stuff will work, and your tranny and all. wiring wise, i could let you know how mine goes. i put a EJ22T in my 95 impreza and am going to swap the wiring over now to the legacy ECU. ive never been in a legacy turbo, but with its engine in my 2400 lb impreza... it was fast, even on the 1.8 ECU :huh: so ya, do it!

Dropped it all into a 94 Impreza (from a 91 Legacy turbo) I just to wire it now.

awesome, yeah bmxpunk did the whole tranny swap and everything too, rear discs are bigger than rear wrx discs too. i have to wire mine too... same ej22t in a 95 impreza but without awd yet. check out my rewiring thread, maybe you can help me out..? not sure where to start

Well, this winter is build up my spare EJ22T, then I'll swap that + everything else into the Impreza. :)
