View Full Version : Full JDM swap?

I'm brainstorming getting a full running JDM WRX or STi and importing it as whole as possible for parts, and doing a full swap of everything from engine, tranny, diffs, brakes, wiring into my L, while retaining the LHD shell and steering.

Questions: Has anybody considered doing this with say a '95 or '96? Try to get base WRX, or go for STi? Will one be more compatible with the lower octane gas? How about the RA with DCCD? Is it worth trying for DCCD? How about parts availability? Is it worth even thinking about?

Thanks all!

Wirelessly posted (Treo 600: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 95; PalmSource; Blazer 3.0) 16;160x160)

you're crazy. Buy a new UDSM 06 WRX and have fun.

Haha, thanks for the reality dose! It has occurred to me. However, the reason for considering this is it might be fairly close costwise to buying various USDM or JDM bits like the engine, tranny, etc. This is also going into an already-completed rally car, so I don't need it to be emissions legal, and I don't feel like caging another car right now. :) Plus I'll have some spare bumpers, fenders, glass, suspension bits, etc.!

my Sti-RA is happy with 93 octane. to an extent, the octane whatnots is a myth.

yes, i run 102 on teh racetrack. it has DCCD and its happy.

if you building a rally car, hopefully you've done your homework and figured out that spares are easy to come by. just go to parts counter, or pillage other imprezas.

specifics on which model to import depends on your budget. i've got a container coming in december will JDM WRX clips that might make you happy. PM me if you wish :)

I've been messin with gas. 14 PSI on 87 with tad of knock at high torque. Goes away with 91. Don't know why I'd go 91+. Maybe I'll find out. BOom.

you ran a turbo car on 87 at 14psi and it didn't blow up .. whoa ... thats not smart

yes its possible thats what this forums is all about, i highly recomend a 95 or earlier .. due to emmissions requirements
the elusive 95 coupe is the car to get

Just remember there are some things that won't switch over RHD-> LHD exactly. you'lll need to redo the wiring and get a lhd hydro clutch, and maybe some other stuff.
