View Full Version : OT: Karaoke and Night Clubs Ethan 08-28-2001, 12:52 AM Ok a couple of my friends are heading up to Vancouver friday night. They want to do some Karaoke and then later go to some clubs. What are some good ones? T-REX 08-28-2001, 01:13 AM You guys are white right? :) Karoke bars? I dont know any that feature all English songs and Im not sure what your into. There are a couple in Richmond where you can rent rooms and sing to your hearts delight. The one I usually go to is Happy OK Karoke in Richmond, its on Westminister RD, just past Number 3 road going west. There are actually tons in Richmond, but they are all predominantly chinese. Most do have a limited selection of english songs though. As for Night Clubs, I think downtown (Granville St.) will suit you boys and gals. Ones to look for are the Roxy, Babalu's, are some of the ones Ive been to. Sonar is my favourite, it is in Gastown. I havent been clubbing for a while though, so things may have changed :) Stay away from bars and clubs on DAVIE ST. Unless your into that ;) Here are some addresses. http://www.vancouver-bc.com/NightLife/NightClub.html#Downtown And you can get Directions and Maps at www.mybc.com Ethan 08-28-2001, 01:23 AM Thanks, acutally a couple of them are from Tawian, but I believe the majority of the group is white :) Thanks for your help! Yes...I think I remember Davie St. Keiho 08-28-2001, 07:24 AM Do it all downtown heh. Karaoke bars downtown...try Tokyo Lounge or Hollywood North. If you want good (recent) English songs, there's a place called Mike's in Burnaby at Station Square. As for clubs...someone else could help you more, I don't club. :) But I've heard a couple names tossed about...Sonar, Plaza...lots more I'm sure. Blackskull 08-28-2001, 01:57 PM what music are you into? Here's my thoughts on some of the clubs: Roxy... typical meat market, quite a few cougars, canadian top 40 and live cover band. Babalu's... pretty much the same as Roxy, canadian top 40 Plaza... very young crowd. When my friend spinned there a few months ago it was dance/r&b, they've since changed music formats Purple Onion... Mixed crowd, mainly r&b, some urban (dance floor side), Lounge side has live jazz. Wett Bar... Mixed crowd, staff has major attitude. Haven't been there lately, don't no what they play anymore. Au Bar... Upscale top40 club, expensive drinks, lots of eye candy :) The restaurant underneath the Purple Onion, if I recall correctly, also has Karaoke. Necromancer 08-29-2001, 02:32 AM Ethan! So you decided to spend some of your fly American green here eh? :D Still driving the Lincoln? Let us know how the clubbing / karaoke turns out! I'm just getting to know the town as well and appreciate the pointers from everyone. :) Have fun. urbanwhitetrash 08-29-2001, 02:54 AM Ethan, just as blackskull asked, what type of music are you into? Once we establish that, we can move onto where to go. capish [b] Ethan 08-29-2001, 02:56 AM don't ask me, I'm not in charge of this little trip :D I was just seeing what was out there, so far they like the Purple Onion I don't think I"ll remember it ;) I'm a terrible singer so I dont WANT to remember it :D Yea I just dropped some Dubs on the Lincoln its a phat ride hommie :D Ken 08-29-2001, 03:06 AM Let's just send these boys out to Surrey! :D Get my drift? Ethan 08-29-2001, 03:35 AM Actually I'm comming with women :D Necromancer 08-29-2001, 03:43 AM Actually I'm comming with women That's OK, the ladies can learn a thing or two from the Surrey girls. :D Ashton 08-29-2001, 04:17 AM Surrey girls Ah!! Now we're talkin'! :D:p Keiho 08-29-2001, 04:52 AM Heh... Dai 08-29-2001, 03:21 PM I was just at Happy-OK the other night. They have a decent selection of English songs. Problem with some of the songs is that the lyrics aren't 100% right!!! It's quite funny trying to sing a song that you know what the words are and then something else comes up on the screen!!!! Ethan 08-29-2001, 04:37 PM oh so happy Karaoke has Engrish songs :D WRX-662 08-30-2001, 12:32 AM K-TV is a pretty popular Taiwanese Karoke place.... english songs are ok.. Richmond but dont' knwo street names sorry |
