if you get slight burn marks from an orbital buffer, would just taking off the whole wax deal through like dish soap take off the burn marks and then you can start over? or is there less or more that i have to do to get them out?

Dish soap is made to take off the toughest grease, so there goes you're clearcoat and other protective elements if you do that, you should be able to use a light hand polish maybe, I don't have much experience with burn marks though, try going to Griots Garage (http://www.griotsgarage.com) , they have a lot of polishes and other cleaning agents.

... i don't think clearcoat comes off that easy... i was under the impression that dish soap took off the wax and after the wax was the clearcoat which would not be harmed... i've heard this from reputable places so... this is wrong?

what im really asking is where are the burn marks, are they on the wax layer, are they on the clearcoat, one means just removing the wax, the other means... professional detailing job to work their wonders with the clearcoat or get a new paint job or something, but they're not that bad at all, so i wouldn't go that route if that was the only way.

Dishsoap will NOT strip your clearcoat. You need thinner or brake fluid to do so... but if you do that you also strip the pigment layer also... hehehe :D

My sister in law gave me one of those buffers for x-mas last year. It's still in the box in the closet. I'm scared to death of those things. I'm too dangerous to try that.

well supposedly those random ones that move around i guess kind of randomly are good but they're also expensive but my dad bought a like 40 buck one from home depo

and i can see marks in direct sunlight in some places, mostly the sides... and it pisses me off cuz i did the meguiares three step and im starting over tomorrow but all by hand this time.

if you get burn or swirl marks from an orbital buffer, it's because you're pressing too hard! you just have to let it float on top, no pressure is required. you have to get some hard compound and some medium cut to get it off. if you stripped the clearcoat, you're pretty much screwed. i stipped the clearcoat off a mustang when i was learning how to use a buffer at a ford dealer. compound, buff, cut, buff, wax, hand shine, finish spray. do these steps if it's not through the clear coat and it should be just fine.

and i agree, go for the maguier's 3 step...

what do you mean by 'medium cut' ? and i don't think i pressed so hard that i did anything irreparable, the only place i see the marks are on the side of the car, where you can't actually rest it on the surface, so i must have pushed a little when fatigued and trying to get the job done

maybe try the clay bar kit from Mothers. that detailing spray with the clay might remove it.

You might try using windsheild washer fluid. I heard that it takes off the dried on bug guts fairly well.

I would have to see the burn, but usually the only way to get rid of it for sure would be to wet sand it! Tha is the only method that I know will not harm that much.
