A while ago I had some bird crap on my hood, which I let bake into my hood (like an idiot!) for a few days, before I washed it off. Now it seems that I have a stain on my hood! I've tried buffing it out with polishes and a scratch remover, as well as some bug+tar remover, but to no avail! Am I screwed? I can hardly see it, but I know its there. This happened on my sisters old car..she let it sit there for months....good thing we got rid of that Sunfire!

What can I use?

Yikes! The very reason I got rid of my 00 blue RS. Couldn't stand the paint! Our subie parts guy gave us some armadillo paint renewer, but even it didn't take it out. It (the bird poop) seemed to bleach the paint to a slightly lighter shade. Do you have a body shop you trust?

Same freaking thing happened to me. Three count them three spots on my hood. I think the poop ate the clear coat. I got even with one of them though. He got a hood scoop enema. I fell no remorse either.

I got hit to but it was on my sun roof. I know nobody's supposed to be looking up there but I knows its there. The paint feels like sandpaper :( .

note to self... must go out and buy car cover since car sits in open parking lot all week.... hmmmmm.... i'm sorry to hear about your cars... the same thing happened to the truck i had before my impreza... it was an '89... so i didn't care all that much... but it was the fact of the mater mainly... anyway... i hope you guys find some kind of fix for it...

Same thing happened to me. If you get it re-clearcoated it'll be fine. Maybe try a clay bar first? I learned my lesson and I now carry a spray bottle of water & a towel in my car! Clean bird crap off ASAP, best to get it before it solidifies and starts ruining the clearcoat.

Same here, it is a big problem buying Japanese cars with cheap paint. You figure you pay about $25K and get some good paint! One of my previous cars, a '99 Miata (Black) has the same quality paint like the Subies. It is just horrible, just leave bird crap on it for two days or even a day maybe and your clearcoat is gone. I also owned a '99 Land Rover Discovery, which I left bird crap on it for close to a month before I washed it and nothing happened to the paint. I paid about $32K before tax on it and it was well worth the money, the SUV was tough had 7-10 layers of paint and clear coat on it I think. My '99 Boxster has one of the best paints as well, I leave bird crap on it for a couple of days and it will wipe right off leaving no trace of it ever being there. You would expect poor quality paint on a sub $20K car but not a car that costs over $25K!

Note to self: Go outside and wash off bird crap right now.

man, I just noticed that I had more bird crap on my car...then I looked closer......its GUM!!!! someones gonna die! Does gum come off? DAMMIT!

I had what looked like large drops of water on my hood and deck lid. was very very sticky. i finally got it all off with Goof-Off (and not easily, i might add) but after being there a week they left dark spots on my nice Silver paint. Im hoping they will go away with a clay bar or something.
Just watch that cuz i dont think quick wipes would take that off. ...and dont even park anywhere near pine trees!

These are exactly the sort of reasons I invested in a car cover earlier this year. Do it. You won't be sorry.

Parking under trees is evil. Sap is different than bird crap and would not even consider using the wipes. There are car care products out there that just deal with tree tar and sap.

My next mod is installing a GAU-8 from the USAF's A10 Thunderbolt 2 on my roof rack...

Carry a bottle of water or soda water in your car. When you have a bird do his business, squirt water and rinse it off. It will just run right off the car. :D

I had that happen a few times and didn't get the crap off for a few days. When I did get it off it left a mark. The sun bleached the marks out in a few weeks (cause that's how long it took for me to remember to look to see if the marks were still there). So I'm not too ticked...I just park in direct sunlight :D (then again, I don't have much choice since I don't have a garage...feh!)

I've put two or three good coats of wax on the whole front area of the car. Last week I got some bird crap on the hood and kept forgetting to clean it. Finally did it after about a week using the water and paper towels at a gas station. Must have been 6 or more spots and all came off with no staining.

I tell ya, it all depends on the bird's diet. Some bird crap are more acidic than others.

Watch out for trees!

All birds and reptiles excrete ammonia based waste as uric acid paste so the pH of their excrement is mostly based on this, diet doesn't do a whole lot to change the pH. The bird's cloaca would be in pretty rough shape if diet determined the acidity of it's poop. It's the relative amount of waste that they excrete that makes most of the difference. A big thick pile from a big bird is going to evaporate more slowly and be more volatile for a longer time than a small bird turd.
Regular waxing will go a long way to prevent bird droppings from hurting your car's paint, but by all means, get that "acid paste" off your car ASAP.

How can you protect your car from dings and such? we just bought a sienna this year(i think) and it has some bad dings and scratches already. close to the top, it must hav been scratched by a tree because there are branch scratches there. they are like half a mm wide, and are quite long.
I saw that protective stuff on the infomertial. is that stuff any good? its the one witht he laser. i just want something that will protect the car. something thick.
