I need some serious help... i did the gauge cluster lighting mod a while back following the nasioc thread.. lighting came out great and all gauges except for the speedo... it doesn't move at all.. tried getting under there with a screwdriver but i didnt see anything to move... should i try taking the needle off (does no harm since it doesnt work anyways) and if i were to take the needle off how would i go about.. does anyone have an experience with this i hate driving around using rpm gauge especially on a cop infested vt high way!

Wirelessly posted (Treo 600: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 95; PalmSource; Blazer 3.0) 16;160x160)

The needle might be rubbing on a little retainer clip or the overlay that resided underneath it. I heard of this happening when you lift the overlay up to remove/sand-off the green film on the back. Try pushing the overlay daown and see if that frees it up. Otherwise, I guess you'll be hunting the boards and eBay for a new cluster.

DO NOT take the needle off... That's a good way to earn yourself a new cluster. It'll never be right again.

BUT you didnt read "the gauge is not working doesnt move so their would be no loss on taking off the needle off"

maybe by taking it off i could fix something put it back together and it could possibly work... someone just tell me how to take it off... it'll be no loss to me since i dont have a speedo now anyways!

I believe you just lift it towards you. You may want to use a fork or something to apply equal pressure on both sides so you dont bent the post.

I'm confused... Just because the needle doesn't move, doesn't mean that the apparatus that drives the needle is not working. If you take the needle off and think that because you put it back on in what you believe is the correct position, it will still read correctly, you are sorely mistaken.

^^^yea i took that into consent when figuring if i should take it off... also though if i took it off safely enough don't you think it wont harm it... cause what i think happen (reason it's not moving) is because the little o-ring is stuck up in the base of the needle (the black thing needle starts from) and is sticking and i cannot reach it with a screwdriver.... i dont know what to do.. should i still just drive using rpms while looking for a used 98 rs gauge (so hard to find cheap) or try to fix this thing more!?
