hi, i have a 05 wagon. i wanto get a HID kit. but ppl said if i just put it in the stocking housing of the lights. the lights are all over the place and it'll blind oncoming drivers. so my question is.. does anyone have HID in just the original housing? do you have any problems with it? and does the lighting improve a lot over the stock? perhaps someone can post some pics for me? i know it might blind oncoming drivers, but actually to be honest i don't really care because i just want better lighting over the stock (i drive in dark places a lot). And, you know, not everyone has the money to get nice jdm projector lens, or a retrofit because that'll cost like 800+ at least. That's why i just wanto put a kit in and that's it. Also, what is a good place to order a kit? I am just looking at ebay now, and i believe they have a Philips 6000K kit for $285USD + shipping. Is that a good deal? and what about the installation? is it hard to do? should i get some professinals to do it? Thx for the help guys.

Ive had HID's in for about a year and have no complaints, i love it and i have driven toward my car while someone else was driving it and the glare shooting at me is not like people say it is. its in my 05 rs

just watch out for people that will flame u. the wrx housing isn't meant for hid's and if installed, would reflect a lot of light into the wrong places (i.e. oncoming traffic). if u want hid's i, and many others, will suggest that u do it correctly and safely. IIRC i read that installing hid's into non-hid equipped housings is illegal. good luck

Well, if you still choose to go against the grain and go with HIDs in your stock housing, you're starting off at the wrong place by going with 6000K bulbs. If you're claiming that you want better lighting, try a kit that includes 4100/4300K bulbs. Anything higher than that, you'll be getting less useable light, however you'll get that COOOL blue look which pretty much dissepates once you're driving in inclement weather.

I still feel you should sway away from doing this mod (Read the HID FAQ at the top of this forum if you haven't already done so). Go with a quality halogen bulb instead.

....if anything will get you flamed, it will most likely be this comment:
i know it might blind oncoming drivers, but actually to be honest i don't really care because i just want better lighting over the stock (i drive in dark places a lot). Please take Hank's advice.

Listen to Hank. I have used both a HID kit and the STi headlights. I got rid of the HID kit almost immediately because of the horrible beam pattern with central hot spots. Sorry, I never took any pictures, but you might find a few if you search. Bottom line: If you want HIDs correctly and safely, just get the STi HID lights.

Hid in stock housing is much more out put than any other aftermarket bulb....

I had tried bunch of aftermarket include piaa...sylvinia...night hawk....

Nothing better than macliush(right?) 4300 hid kit in stock housing...even in raining day..

Diference is huge.also i have had this kit over 1 year..almost no body flash me.....just

remember dont go over 6000k....you can not see anything in terrible weather...

i do not know ,,you will lose highbeam..but mine dose not have highbeam(9007)

good luck

Don't get any aftermarket bulbs that have blue coating on them (6000K bulbs will most likely have it). It only reduces light output.

I have them in my stock housings but my stock housings are projectors ('06). No glare at all and they look OEM however I'm not getting optimal output cause the projectors are made for halogens but still they are twice as bright as stock. I would guess if I had the "true" HID projectors then they would be 3X as bright as stock.

when i said stock housing and different bulbs, it was little pun intended. :D Yes, i retro-fitted TSX projectors into my stock housing. These are SUPER-W I D E & super bright!!

Just little pic of how i install these...

I'm thinking about selling my headlights off and install Bi-xenon projectors. I gotta save little more money for bigger turbo tho...

Honestly, i'm not the BEST retro fitter. If you are willing to pay money, check out www.hidplanet.com (http://www.hidplanet.com/) there are more experts. Also it took me about 3 days to build the headlights & harness, and about a week to finalize the aim alignment. SO, if you want me to work on yours, I gotta charge you at least $1000 for my labor!!! :D :D jp~

oh yeah, bi-xenon projectors are tend to be bigger than single projector. Plus more wiring work as well.

Dang! I thought YOU were offering. I've been doing some research, and I should be able to do it myself for about $500-600 CAD. If/when I get around to it, I'll take LOTS of pictures and document the heck out of it.

I bought the McCulloch HID kit for my car. 6000K straight add on to my '04 Wagon (bulbs only, not the reflectors or assembly). I am happy w/ the beam pattern and I have not had one car high beam me -ever. I have followed friends and been in their cars while they drove mine behind me so I could see if I was blinding others. No. No blinding. I am very happy w/ the kit, and my vision at night is a whole lot better. :)
