Hey guys, I need to make another trip back up to Aurora and

I am wanting to take another route from ATX.

So I am wondering how I-70 is from Salina, KS to Aurora, CO?

Is I-70 a toll road?

I know from what at least the map says I will loose 1 hour difference from

my original route, but I am sick of the small country back roads I take.

Sometime I even miss a turn and have to turn around. So what I want to do

is try the Super Highways to get up there.

So I am wanting to take I-35 to I-135 to I-70 to I-225 to Aurora. Any tips

about this route? Good the bad.. umm ugly?

Lots of cops in Kansas. My grandparents used to live in Cedar Park!

I take I-35 - I-70 Kansas to Denver about twice a year. It is long, boring, and look out for car sized tumbleweeds. Although, you can stop and see the worlds largest prairie dog. :p
Btw, I-70 is not a toll road but parts of I-35 south of Witchita are.

i have made the round trip drive from Oklahoma to denver about 10 times. I-70 is not a toll road, but most of Kansas is covered with highway patrol. Watch out for cops sitting in the bushes on either ends of the small towns out there. I beleive the speed limit in Kansas is 70 mph on I-70 and then once you hit Colorado it turns to 75mph. That stretch of road between salina and denver is very long and boring so be prepared.

Speed limit on I-70 in Kansas is 65. It feels insanely slow too. One more reason to hate driving through Kansas. They make you stay in the state longer.

Yuck. 65mph. I think that was in the 1990's speed limit, right? lol.

Well if 75mph is max speed limit, I go 85mph ;)

Well of course my X50/8500 is on.

I70 is a good road with the 75 mph speed limit. Plan on stopping for services at Burlington and Limon, the other towns out on the exteme east end do not have much.

There is a state patrol office in Limon, so pay pretty close attention to the speed limit when you get close to Limon, and out past Ceder point west of Limon. Next good places to stop would be Deertrail, and there is a full rest stop at Byers, which is where most folks stop to get the kinks out before the final trip into Denver.

Once you get to Byers stay near the speed limit as they start patroling from there west into Denver.

When I drive down to texas I usually take 287 south from I70 through Lamar (good place to stop) then through Witchita Fall, and Ft Worth. By this route it is about 730 driving miles from Ft Worth to Denver. It is the route most of the long haul truckers use up from Amarillo. If you stay with a group of trucks you will make good time.

I've taken the I 35 north to I 70 route and it is a little more relaxing as you have more opportunities to pass if you get behind a slow car, but I also enjoy the wide open stretches on 287 as well. If I was forced to drive at night I would probably favor the I35 - I70 route, if most driving in Tx would be in day time, I'd probably go with the 287 route.
