View Full Version : Slow Boy Racing Has Anyone got a Tune From Them? mrtrex 11-13-2005, 05:17 PM They are about 1 hour from Pittsburgh PA. I just want to see what kind of numbers you put down and what was the quality of the map. Thanks b4437 11-13-2005, 07:01 PM don't know, still waiting on the results of their sti. :) Mycues1982 11-13-2005, 08:52 PM I just got tuned by them 2 days ago. I put down 341 ft/lbs and 298 whp at 20.5 psi, but he toned it down to 19 psi and I am putting down 306 ft/lbs and 273 whp. I have an '05 STi and my mods are 3" tbe, DR500 FMIC, Cobb intake, Walbro fuel pump. I highly recommend them they are great guys. checque 11-14-2005, 12:46 AM I was just back in Pittsburgh last week and was asking around about SBR in the DSM crowd, turns out that the handful of guys I talked to about them have nothing good to say. I hate supplying second hand information, but I'm not going there because of what I've been told. Xotic is 5 hours away and is much better, I've heard nothing but good things and that's where I'm headed soon. spooln04 11-14-2005, 06:53 AM i live in the pittsburgh area, stay away from slowboy. i repeat stay away from slowboy. they are bad news. they might beat you up too ;) lawn boy 11-14-2005, 07:54 AM my buddy got his sti tuned there. they tuned it a little too conservitively Slowboy 11-14-2005, 10:25 AM don't know, still waiting on the results of their sti. :) While I was away at SEMA, the guys installed the 35R on my STI and dynoed 460 ish off the nitrous and 579 on the nitrous... mind you this is still a stock motor and thats all the harder I wanted them to push it. We dyno 5-6 STI's here every week, let me know what type of set up you have in an email, and I can send you some dyno sheets... send to mh@slowboyracing.com and I will do my best to help you out today. MGH Slowboy 11-14-2005, 10:26 AM my buddy got his sti tuned there. they tuned it a little too conservitively We get accused of this from time to time, and it really depends on what the owner of the car asks us to do. If they want a conservative tune, thats what they get! MGH mrtrex 11-14-2005, 10:35 AM Can you guys tune for autocross use. I will be there next tuesday for the tune I already have it scheduled. I have the cobb AP with the following. Turbo xs top mount Turbo xs catles exhaust Catless up-pipe K&N Shorty intake Sti Fuel Pump GM Boost Solinoid (stll deciding if I want to use this yet) I am looking to get a ton of low end tq and a very quick spool. Yes, you will work directly with Nathan, and I will pass on this link so he can PM you. MGH mrtrex 11-14-2005, 10:48 AM Sounds good thanks for the quick reply. lawn boy 11-14-2005, 03:46 PM I am interested in getting a tune for my car. 03 wrx running UTEC stage 2 basemap catless turboback turbxs fmic turboxs intake SlowboyCSE 11-14-2005, 05:53 PM Too conservatively? Well get it back here then, bring 400 dollars for 15 gallons of VP Import 120 and I will find out what not conservative enough is :) I even have a spare STROUD SAFETY Diaper from the race car, so clean up will be minimal! Probably 25 or 30 minutes. Project Rex STi 11-14-2005, 07:33 PM Personally, i have nothing but good things to say about SlowBoy. I have their GT-12 turbo and love it. Everytime i call, they always spend time on the phone to help me. When i went and bought my turbo....they even showed me around their shop for about 45 mins. You guys get a big :D from me. BTW, i did a 12.8 @ 107 at PRP a few weeks back on my GT-12 (and other supporting mods) and a UTEC with pretty much NO TUNING and really bad driving. The car has a mid 12 no problem...even with no more tuning. I was only running 16-17 psi. I am happy with the results so far. checque 11-14-2005, 08:45 PM We dyno 5-6 STI's here every week . . . LMAO! SlowboyCSE 11-14-2005, 09:42 PM Hate it  or love it :disco: http://www.people.iup.edu/lclj/DynoGraphs/SBR-STi-35R-ZEX-BIG.JPG Link fixed, sorry for the mistake! Slowboy 11-14-2005, 10:11 PM LMAO! Did I miss something here? MGH deluxsti 11-14-2005, 10:52 PM Personally, i have nothing but good things to say about SlowBoy. I have their GT-12 turbo and love it. A guy I know from utica supposivly had his rs eclipse motor, built and turbo'd by them. Although the guy was a weirdo and nuked it not to long after... Project Rex STi 11-14-2005, 11:34 PM its a mid 12 second car with intake and exhaust i sold my sbr days after i got it if that says anything Did i mention no tune and really bad driving. doubleurx 11-15-2005, 01:16 AM its a mid 12 second car with intake and exhaust i sold my sbr days after i got it if that says anything I also have the GT30-12 and made 338 whp / 331 wtq - 91 octane on a Mustang dyno. The fact that you sold yours days after you bought it says you didn't install it and don't really have any experience first hand with the turbo. ;) deluxsti 11-15-2005, 02:03 AM yes i installed it and it sucked ass, worst customer service ever. WrxWonderWagon 11-15-2005, 02:44 AM hit or miss as far what ive delt with Tenacious Bee 11-15-2005, 08:05 PM I had been wondering the same thing. I pm'd a guy who had nothing but straight up good things to say. I called them up and asked a bunch of questions. They were all answered with no problem. A guy I met face to face just got a dyno tune and turbo installed .He was very knowledgable and was totally comfortable with them. I talked to him just before he had it done but not since. I have seen him driving it around but have not spoken to him. I will give him a call tomorrow and report what he has to say here. I am going to give them a shot after the hollidays if he tells me what I think he is going to tell me. FastDad 11-16-2005, 05:27 PM They have my 04 WRX right now. I think you should pick your tuner based on your power goals and if you want to drive with a laptop as a passenger or not. I asked them for a street tune cause that's what it is a street car. I pick up my car Friday and I'll post my opinions if anybody cares to hear them. BTW my setup header(wrapped), vf30(exhaust ported), Pinks, Helix DP, Borla Hush, STi TMIC, Big MAF, Protune. ScoreBo 11-17-2005, 09:30 AM I had my 04 Stage 2 STi tuned by them a few months ago and couldn't be happier. Car is now making 301WHP and 336WTQ and recently ran a 12.82 @ 105.7 at Norwalk. Yellow graph on the chart is a stock STi, the blue is the Cobb Stage 2 93 octane map and the magenta graph is my SBR map. Notice the torque graph on the left at 3000 RPM. Not only did I gain a huge amount of torque over the Cobb map, I am also making 100 FT/LBs more at 3000 RPM. You can really feel this when you drive it. With the stock RE070 tires, I see rubber being put down onto the road when I am in 2nd gear and nail it. http://home.neo.rr.com/subido/Static/DynoSlowboySTGII.jpg John |
