This may not be the correct spot to post this but I figured that the most GC8 owners would be in this area. I'm looking for a taller hood scoop (but not a big ugly one...something that looks or is factory) for a 1998 Impreza 2.5RS. Any leads would be much appreciated.

I was thinking of doing that for my 99. But Im not sure if the STi scoop fits. Has anyone tried this? (I'd choose the STi one only though)

Mmmmm, Big ugly one

Seriously though, i can't find much else. Other than hoods with a bigger scoops as part of the assembly. Usually carbon fiber though.

STi scoop will not fit, different hood.

Yeah, there's a couple obscure aftermarket ones out there, but that's it.

I once thought the STi S201 "Electra" scoop was larger, but I don't think it is.

There's probably a much better way to invest $250.00+ into your car than a huge Carbon Fiber scoop, but if you want to slow down faster put Drag-chute on the back! paired with an OWN3D license plate frame and no one will mess with you

Try to be positive! Say something like, the carbon fiber hood not only lightens the weight for a better power-weight ratio, but it can also add significant downforce to the front end of the car for better top end stability and grip. :alien:

That's brilliant, thank you for your insightful comments. Expect some from me in the future. This is for a GC8 that is running a WRX engine swap with STi topmount, VF-34, injectors blah blah blah...we want a taller scoop to provide the intercooler with some better cooling than stock allows. plus customer wants something that looks bigger and badder. If you have an issue with that F U.

I've seen an Impreza L with a RS hood but a STi scoop and it looks weird but if you like it go right ahead and do that

there are taller hood scoop available for the GC's that are about 1" taller than the stock one. I believe Renick Motorsports? sells them

Ryan24, thank you, I will look into that. tzedek...wow, different number, same body, don't make a lick a difference for this post. MadDog, there used to be an old STi hoodscoop available, identical to the RS's stock scoop but taller (in other words did not look funny but allowed more air in).

tzedek...wow, different number, same body, don't make a lick a difference for this post.well if you're going to use a very specific applied chassis code, might as well use the correct one.

Wow Well.... thanks for the awesome feed-back guys! ya all know how to make someone feel really welcome in your thread anyway, I almost added something about how it would be a good thing for a TMIC but I just figured it was prolly some noob looking to turn a 1.8 GC8 in to a cheap New STi  "Embarasing" if ya really want to get air in and out out that hood put the one that Primative racing has on there http://www.writerguy.com/primitive/body.htm it could be what your car needs my main point was that the $285.00 plus $25.00 shipping was a bit excessive and have you thought about manning up to a FMIC  so before we start droping F-bombs just Idle down chain-saw I was really just joking around! besides that $310.00
would take a large chunk of change out of a FMIC kit or you could get a used one and save more ca$h on a way more effecent and visually impacting mod good luck to ya with that

There are fiberglass replica STi hoodscoops from the GM6 STi's. I bought mine from Kastle's Korner a long time ago, and I'm not sure if he stocks them still. Search around here and on RS25 and you might be able to find a vendor who currently sells them.

Thank you again to Ryan24. I found exactly what I was looking for on Renick's site.
Tzedek, WHO CARES? It doesn't make a lick of difference to the post. We have an open class GC8 at our shop and we have GM6's, they all have bits and pieces from each other so it really does matter. I just don't understand why you would even bother posting that.
Kincaid - the part the Ryan mentioned is $150. This is going on a car that see's heavy rally use, rally-x use and all around front end type bashing use so an FMIC is out of the question. Also I don't recall mentioning anywhere that we were thinking of going with an FMIC (which would require a new bumper skin or a really cut up one since this has the Canadian RS front end).

midnx03, thank you also for your input.

MODERATOR, feel free to lock this thread, question has been answered and part has been found.

Anyways at least you got a geat scoop with GC8 STi styling, for a fair price, good choice!! and next time take a breath before ya reply when you ask for opinions/sugestions from others ya never know what you'll get its not a personal attack on you or your car styling. :)

Like you stated originaly in the first part of the thread it is in the Normally Asperated fourm and not leting everyone know that your car was turbo'd may have lead some to belive -(or just me)- that it was strictly a ornamental exterior mod which would be seemingly pointless after we got the second bit of info. My post was very insightfull at best, and without knowing you had to run a TMIC for the rally car i think you'll get whare this is going  never the less glad to hear ya found what you are looking for and good luck with the car!

Milsport makes a real nice scoop for GC's. It is a replica of the STi V.8 Hood scoop, made out of fiberflass with carbon splitters. Here is a pic of it

Congrats on the Championship this year. I had the opportunity to see you guys at work at STPR this year. Its amazing how fast a team can swap a turbo on the side of the street with spectators everywhere  . Are you hiring? :D

Cool dood. We'll see you up on the cold side of the continent then.
BTW, for anyone else looking for this part we ended up going with MRT. It was the only stock looking older STi style hod scoop. Thanks for the help.
