I have borla header, stromung xa and stock midpipe/cats on the car.
It is alot quieter than I expected and it hasnt really gotten any louder since its been on there. Some of the members on here have heard my car and also said that it sounds very quite.

How much louder would the stromung midpipe make the Suby? Does anyone have a sound clip of comparing the two setups with header, axleback and stock/not stock midpipe?

I have taken off the XA until I find a solution to make it louder. I am not too worried about the incabin noise. (my other ride is a 97 Transam with flowmaster and is pretty loud so the Suby sounds like a graveyard compared to this) I am back on the magnaflow till I can get this to sound right.

thanx

Cheers

I put a stromung mid-pipe and stock WRX can on my L, it was only slightly louder. The muffler and headers will make more difference. The random tech cat is reportedly louder.
The mid-pipe will give you more chirps and cricket noises.

the midpipe will louden it up another notch, since the stock pipe is small and resonated

even louder? get a high flow cat

not sure if this is a dumb question, but if you change the midpipe to stromung and the muffler too, do any cels come up for a gc or later year?

no CEL unless you swap out the cat

i believe the stock midpipe has a resonator, where the stromung does not. i started off my car with just a blitz axelback. it was somewhat loud on throttle but was quiet on idle. the midpipe does make it louder overall. if you want it louder and popping, you would need to go catless or perhaps a high flow cat.

The Stromung mid pipe is a straight pipe, it will be definately louder, but not as loud as it would be if you went catless....:)

There is a resonated version available. It isn't as if the ONLY product isn't resonated.

So HFC would make it louder by a greater margin than just the Midpipe.
Would there be any difference by keeping the stock midpipe and replacing the cat with a high flow cat?

If you keep all piping stock but replace the stock cat only.....will this throw a cell?

I guess I want to know if the sound restriction lies in the midpipe or the cat. Which one is more restrictive sound wise?

The cat is generally more sound restrictive. But if you get a HFC but have a stock midpipe it is kind of backwards, performance wise. You are going from higher flow headers to hi flow cat to restrictive midpipe.

If you put a HFC and a non-resonated midpipe on, your car will be pretty loud, which seems to be what you are going for.

I would say about 95% of all people with a HFC throw a CEL. There are some fixes that work for some, but not all.

he wont throw a cel, 03+ rs's have less crazy ecu's so we dont throw any of thsoe nice codes

<--04 with headers, HFC, catback

Piker28, U dont happen to have any sound bits around do you?

I want to know how loud it could be compared to what I have now.

Thanx

Here is my review when I used to have my RS

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=793768&highlight=long+post

In short, I had the borla and full stromung after that. The performance is quite noticable, sound if amazing. But driving long distances with that exhaust can become anoying.

Here you have some sound clips, they are from cobb, but its still the same pipe. This is in a STi, but you could get the idea.

i thought the whole point of a high flow cat was to NOT throw a code when you go for performance, meeting halfway, so to speak, with the ecu. catless, or high flow, and both throw codes, what gives, why bother......emissions

^^ que?

a wrx will get a cel just like a rs with no cats but helps performance same with a high flow

the ecu is just touchy with the AF ratio changes so it throws the code, they made it less anal in 03+, its an easy fix
