View Full Version : Video game systems, CGM STi trunk w/wing and studded tires question
IndeSTi 11-16-2005, 06:55 AM I will be primarily self employed until next year or perhaps forever. Until the details are worked out I will be balancing my finances rather closely and wanted to see if there is any interest in some abilities and assets I possess. Please PM any requests if they are specific, or post questions here and I will PM back.
Video Game systems: Atari-->Xbox/PS2/GC/DS/PSP etc..
I can do pretty much whatever you may need/want. I have been repairing systems for Microplay for the last 7+ years and counting. I don't really sell parts, warranty my work best I can (i.e. significant other playing Slinky with a repaired system is not warranty IMHO). There can be a lot of time involved but if no repair no charge. I can also give you a realistic idea of whether or not the chances are good/bad as sometimes Microplay can use the spare parts and credit towards a new/used system and that saves time for everyone. And really the options are unlimited  .
I may also be able to help out or advise on anything PC related but I may be doing that as a day job, so personal requests for now only. I know what I know but more importantly I know what I don't know. I can point you in the right direction though, or give my opinion and options. I am relaxing for the Holidays so please do not take offense if I can not directly help you myself. :(
CGM STi trunk with wing...no bullet holes. It was cheaper to get a new trunk then strip the wing..I am only curious if anyone up here has serious interest in it. It has the two tension(?) bars as I was told you could launch small children off of the bare trunk. I haven't a clue what this should sell for currently so any *realistic suggestions on a fair price would be appreciated.
And finally, anyone have a 2005 STi (mechanically as close to stock as possible) with studded tires and a free evening, preferably late evening after we get some more snow/ice? I have never driven with studded tires and would like to try it out. Safety and responsibility would need to be both of our top priorities. I would suggest a parking lot to start with small comparisons on stopping, turning, etc.. of course my car (Dunlop M2 Winter Sport, no studs) is available to compare equally. Either one rides with or we just both drive the others. Any reasonable request will be accommodated, and I have no interest in launching, abusing, thrashing (5k clutch drops) etc. I casually drive in traffic rarely breaking 3k RPM and the car has maybe 4300 miles on it, I don't baby it I am just not a straight line fan. I also know this car can do more than I can do with it so I make sure no bystanders are...by standing. Also, and I am not stating this to elude to a biased opinion but I would prefer someone that has been driving in AK (or very similar conditions) for at least 10 years. I am almost 29 and born/raised here. The winters have changed quite a bit and I think both parties may have more to offer from personal experience. I am also willing to work something out if no one wants to swap, but has a set of studded tires I may borrow (although only if on suitable wheels).
Ohh and the barter system is in full effect sooooo if ya need an xbox/ps2 or need something worked on and are willing to sort out the details beforehand let me know. This includes trading anything that I may be able to apply to my STi. I have no intention of Mod'ing my vehicle but I would love to get more familiar with the mechanics.
Thanks for looking and I hope to attend the meet at Hank's so feel free to hit me up then with any questions/concerns.
-Derrick
P.S. Please no "Can you get me XBOX360/discount/warez". And I will be replying as I can but I may not respond if any BS. I also prefer to discuss the possibilities/options in person regarding modifications so do not be surprised if I PM my # instead of replying. :D
XR4Tim 11-16-2005, 07:36 AM I need my SNES fixed...
Spooln4 11-16-2005, 08:59 AM yeah im runnin on stock RE070's  WOW does that suck. try logan (xplcitcustmz) he is completly stock and has a pretty nice set of studs..(no HAKA II's but still nice as hell) and i road in it and was like damn i need a set of these! studs make all the difference in the world.
Or maybe its because im lowered on stock potenza's  `
IndeSTi 11-16-2005, 02:56 PM Thanks for the info Spooln4, I don't plan on using studs as my driving habits/style are bad enough... I also like to run these tires about 8 months, this helps keep the wear down on my summer tires. And I ran for about a month on the stockers last winter...I had no problems getting anywhere, uphill whatever...but you are really risking not being able to react to avoid someone elses mistake with those tires. Be careful and almost any change is a world of difference IMO.
SNES Tim, old school version I presume? They are pretty easy if fixable..most of the time as the rest of the time it is not repairable. Also, a DC, or XBOX can run pretty much all SNES games you own through emulation (same for the PC) so if that is of any interest let me know.
I also have some access to Atari/Dreamcast/Nintendo/GameGear/Gameboy (all versions) parts/accessories/games. Nothing to get too excited over but I still keep my systems and you just can't get some games elsewhere.
And if anyone knows a interested person in some rare/collectible games I may be selling quite an eclectic collection I have obtained over many years. I have imported many (too many) systems/games/accs. over the years and I am not the biggest fan of the Ebay community when shipping out of AK.
Some examples:
Panzer Dragoon Saga (JP), Sold unopened US version already.
Top loading NES w/Dragon Warrior III
Radiant Silvergun (Saturn)
REZ (DC and unopened PS2)
I may see if Hank is opened to the idea of me bringing over my Xbox if anyone is curious of what the open source community has developed for it.
Mavrik 11-16-2005, 03:32 PM you wouldn't happen to have a the internet config disc for the PS2 adapter would you? I seem to have missplaced mine :(
and I have a few SNES games on my PC thanks to emulator programs.
IndeSTi 11-16-2005, 03:58 PM I will be stopping by the shop later tonight or tomorrow and I will check for one, if not there I can get one out of my storage in a few days. I will PM you.
Mavrik 11-16-2005, 03:59 PM Thanks, been wanting to set that up on my PS2 so the wife can test out how Clear Wire works on the consoles.
will hear from you later then. :)

Usaf*STi 11-16-2005, 06:21 PM buy an xbox 360 and call it good
lover707 11-16-2005, 08:03 PM are u talking to me?? i am getting one when it comes out..
i buy every system that comes out..i am a gamer..
i just dont play pc games..
IndeSTi 11-16-2005, 11:35 PM xbox and 360 are the only systems I have not bought at launch (normally JP launch) since the PS. Now that may change if I decide to grab one next week, but nothing currently is leading toward that option. In fact I have not played an Xbox game on my Xbox for about...3-4 months or longer, even though I use it every day. Once in a while I will check one out for an hour or so but I just don't seem to come back....must be getting old.
lover707 11-17-2005, 12:07 AM drop off the systems..
thanks.. rented xbox games.. nfs wanted and true crime nyc..
00Maddog 11-17-2005, 12:50 AM I'll drive your car
but seriously, i drive wrx's and sti's all winter with a variety of studs/studless tires, and they all perform similarly. only thing i can note is that studs work much better on wet ice or wet snow pack. other than that studless are hard to tell apart, save for the reduced noise!
00Maddog 11-17-2005, 01:18 AM o yeah, on the trunk/wing, i just spent 400 on one, cheapest i could find. a new wing is over 500 alone.
XR4Tim 11-17-2005, 01:56 AM Alright... I would like my SNES (yes, the original style) fixed, and also... What Atari Jaguar games do you have?
AK_2002_WRX 11-17-2005, 02:34 AM do you have any AC plugs for an old school nintendo? how about modding x-boxes?
IndeSTi 11-17-2005, 06:29 AM XR4Tim: Check PM. And Atari Jag...hmm store might have a few in the graveyard. I was using the Atari--->Xbox/PS2 as a reference timeline, anything between then I have worked on practically....well no 3DO but a guys gotta have some standards.
AK_2002_WRX I'll check on plug, or I can whip one together if not one at store. Mod...yes and 3 different ways: Chip, softmod (no chip, and can boot into orig dashboard) or I can flash the onboard TSOP. I do not recommend playing Live with the third option at all, and the first two if you are willing to take responsibility. The workmanship I will back-up for life (my life) and the only other warning is some saved games I have seen error out (corrupt), some games will fix it..others won't. I can back -up to a mem card if you do not have, but not all games will back-up to card. There are quite a bit more details so we will have to hook-up and I can show you the different options. And if there are any worries about damaging your box...I have about 20+ systems that mainly had read errors or bad HDD so the mobo is good and that is what matters for a mod...I have never messed one up though. Between PS/PS2(hate)/Xbox/DC/Saturn I have done a couple hundred mods, and over 2000 repairs easy. Any concerns you have please bring foward with no hesitation so expectations are understood =).
Ohhhh and the only things about mods, besides the "First rule of Fight Club" is:
I am not Emachines/Dell/Gateway... no 24hour support # =P
Mainly if - FTP - Remote into - LAN - IP Address - Static Address - Networking - Partitions - are terms you are not familar with I may politely decline as...well..some ppl ...................
Any further information regarding mods will be done with the interested party only via phone or email please. I will PM any requests with that info. If anyone has hesitations, speak up please if interested. If you want a good laugh I can dig up some photos of my "office" at my old place...it was going to be a joke on the (*sarcasm ->) nice things people were saying to me about the paint job. But I never got around to typing up the post before the thread was locked. Or we can take out a dozen xbox/ps2/gamecube systems and use them for target practice if you want.
One last thing...lol..
Please let me know BEFORE i work on anything that is not "Loading Games" that the dog PISSED on it...I tend to get a bit irate when I find out after I have been dismantling it while eating lunch...
AK_2002_WRX 11-17-2005, 06:33 AM what is the mod that has all the other video games on the x-box... emulator or something? i'm a newb to the x-box, and something a friend told me was "get your x-box modded." and he showed me his saying it has nintendo games, SNES, SEGA. thats the kind of mod i was talking about. not the other one, i'd rather buy my new games:)
IndeSTi 11-17-2005, 06:39 AM Thanks, been wanting to set that up on my PS2 so the wife can test out how Clear Wire works on the consoles.
will hear from you later then. :)
The last two people that asked about it when I was at Microplay (They are selling them too fyi) prolly got a bit more info then they needed, but they definetly had a good idea of what I have seen from Muldoon to Bayshore to Hillside (some older houses with lead paint or brick/cement walls need it at a window) with the modem. I am still doing quite a number of different things with them so I will hold off on posting details per say, but for a lot of reasons it is a damn nice thing for this town and I easily recommend it for most ppl. TrdVibe is an asset for them to have and with me she was honest (rare almost nowadays) with what she *didn't know, instead of trying to BS. Thanks again for the late drop off, remind me of your real life Alter Ego in case I forget to return the favor :D
IndeSTi 11-17-2005, 06:49 AM what is the mod that has all the other video games on the x-box... emulator or something? i'm a newb to the x-box, and something a friend told me was "get your x-box modded." and he showed me his saying it has nintendo games, SNES, SEGA. thats the kind of mod i was talking about. not the other one, i'd rather buy my new games:)
There is nothing seperating them, I can remove the "back-up" programs and if you keep the original hard drive in there you wouldn't have any room to put anything more than the emu's on there. I am not the type to even care what you do in your own home nor do I judge what ppl do. Whatever floats your boat...as long as it ain't rockin' mine :disco: . I am more like "Ask Jeeves".
And this is a private person to person relationship, no business whatsoever past, present or future is associated with this and Microplay has no knowledge of mods nor do they give out any info pertaining to me. Please understand and respect that.
P.S. Xbox-Scene.com is an excellent resource for information and they have links to every other site that is worth mentioning IMO.

thanks Inde, I'm hoping we'll have service at Hank Swans so I can bring some modems in for people to try out and use. That area of town is kinda weak, so I'm going to cross my fingers. I had one guy last night we tried to set up the PS2, but it was in an underground basement so we only had one bar for signal on occassion. I have to go back tonight to redo the set up and get them situated on their router, then we can check out how his online gaming goes. he was playing SOCOM3 (I think that's the name) online.
IndeSTi 11-17-2005, 07:38 PM trdvibe hmmm...if your wife can cook maybe we should just hang out one night and finish up the conversation/demonstration on networking principles/topologies/etc.. It might give you some good troubleshooting steps or other ways of making the customer happy...without the ridiculous "extender via the electrical outlets", unless the commision on those is worth it as the price they sell for has not gained my respect.
C'mon I think we know who wears the pants......
Mavrik 11-17-2005, 10:37 PM we both wear pants, I do a lot of the cooking though, which is fine, that way I know I'm not being poisoned. :D
mvm42699 11-17-2005, 11:32 PM You got PM!
IndeSTi 11-18-2005, 03:56 AM http://www.alaskamotorsports.com/ak...ewtopic&t=20295
This guy wrote up a lot of the details....but a bit pricey IMO. Depending on a few things:
250GB drive = $120-140
No modchip needed (can install, would just need to order and I do wire installs as the header is flaky IMO)
I wouldn't mark-up parts, I am used to charging for my time or services per agreement depending on individual config. Pricing would vary as there are options galore...want a power button on your controller? Different colored LED's, or a few USB ports for keyboard and mouse? You can also use it to attach a USB drive to transfer saves, etc... Extra fans for cooling, 2 hard drives with a switch (boot one or other), how about some real thermal paste on the CPU and GPU instead of the bubble gum MS uses? Would you like to have your Clear Wire modem to be powered from the Xbox? You'd have a nice wire that you could power it from, heck pretty much any standard PC device (5 or 12v) I can have powered by the box (some limitations due to room/feasibility as I would need to recreate or hack into the existing power cord of the device).
The only mod i am doing for me only is adding another 64mb of ram to the xbox...but that is a pain...it will be nice for what comes next though.

nope, i can't cook worth a snot. phil does most of the cooking unless i think of something to throw in the crock pot in the morn! but usually i don't even get home til 8 or 9 pm, sometimes later.... so it's usually left overs. :(
and we haven't been charging anything for the clear plugs so we can just get people up and running! lol. i'm taking the crasher course in computer networking it seems... :P also, now i have to learn all the online computer and gaming system lingo, set ups, etc.
