As a Subaru salesman, I would really appreciate some feed back about Tribeca gas mileage and anyones experiences with regular, or, middle grade fuel. :cool:

from the dealer ours started at 11.9 (thanks to my heavy foot seeing how the car felt) -- after a week it is up to 19mpg (I have no idea how to reset the fuel mpg, any ideas?)

Anyway, on the highway going 75-80mph I was getting 24-26mpg, so all in all average is probably 21-22ish

Your fuel mpg is calculated based on the trip distance traveled. If you reset the trip counter, then I believe that resets the MPG. At least that is how it is on the MY05 Legacys.

Gary is correct. You can reset both A and B. If you look in the owner's manual on page.....LOL

Local driving is about 16 to 18 mpg. Highway aound 21 to 24. I do not use anything other than Premium as the car is already under powered. Others have tried lower grade fuel but does not seems to improve mpg.

We get 19 on average split between local and highway. On the highway we get close to 25 now at times, but typically 23-24. We find no lack of power at highway speeds and the manual mode works very well. Still, when they upgrade the power, we'll probably get the newer model. We like it that much!

I average over 20 in the city between my wife and me driving it. HWY has been between 25 and 27 depending on which one of us is driving.

Got my tribeca about a month ago. Started with 11-12 city. Have 500 miles jumped to 15-16 in city moderate driving style.The more car loosens up the better it should be.

Yeah but lower grade fuel is cheaper, 10 to 20 cents a gallon . The owner of my dealer has 2 Tribecas and is using regular in both. I drove his for my test drive for 2 hours and it drove fine.

$0.20 is $3.38 per 16.9 gallons... That's chump change

So if regular gives the same mileage, performance and doesn't negatively eefect the motor then we spend the 3.38 because?

Believe me it won't be the same perfomance. Some one did a test a while back with original 212 HP H-6 in OB VDC. Regualr gas degrade the engine for about 10hp IIRC. Now the Tribeca has the same engine but highly tuned to produce 250HP. The power loss will be even more. Off the line, Tribeca is a dog even with premium gas.

Still trying to figure out why everyone thinks the B9 is a dog :confused:

It makes plenty of power its just higher up in the band, we've gotten so used to the N/A subie surge then nothing we don't resepect the pull-to-redline power that we're getting now.

That said, I hope for a 3.5 or 3.3 tweaked for more midrange torque... lower redline and screw the peak power number :disco:

Did you check out those NASIOC Technical forums yet? You will find a lot of "chip" word there.

And, of course, "chip" on Subarus usually means paint "chip" :lol:

Subaru's don't have a place to put a :chip" like some cars. Either you get the ECU replaced or reflashed. Somehting like a Cobb AP or similar. There are some piggyback systems too but no matter what it's not similar to a plug in chip.

But on the highway in real world driving it has better power than my Outback by a mile. I've also had the Tribeca at some pretty high speeds...very stable and secure.

Robert, Did you have an H6 in your Outback? Just wondering what you are comparing it to. We had the OB VDC Wagon and that had the H6. I don't feel that the B9 is any worse off the line right now but we are going easy on the B9 as it is new. Currently I consider the power fine but have not had a lot of seat time.

I'm also interested in what you consider high speed? PM me with that answer ;) I have no intentions of finding out if the B9 has a speed limiter but I'm curious none the less :) If I want quick and fast I'll drive my F-XT. I got the B9 for traveling in comfort, the way my Forester is set up I would not want to go for more than 2 - 3 hrs max in it :p

That depends where you drive most I suppose, around town or the highway. In car mags they test 0-60 in the real world I think people spend most of the time 60 - 80 MPH

Just a quick follow up to the MPG question. On my second tank, the first one that I was able to fill and record the MPG's, I got 18 MPG that was 70% round town and 30% highway. Not bad for a new motor. I checked it against the cars AVE computer for the tank and it was a little optimistic at 21 VS the actual of 18 MPG.
