I always like to start project threads about my cars so here we go. My 96 Legacy has like 217k on the clock and the motor is tired and worn out to say the least. It leaks oil out of every nook and cranny possible. It now has a blown passanger side headgasket so I bit the bullet and started looking for a new motor. I found a guy selling a EJ22T over in Grand Rapids (about a hour drive) and decied to buy it. So I drove down there and I ended up getting the complete motor and wiring harness along with the front X-Member attached with the 2-piston brakes and all :D . So here begins the start of Project BTRWAGN  I'll get pix of the actuall car tomarrow
Just after unloading the motor from the UHaul

If you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for that motor and how many miles are on it?

$850 for everything and i think he said it has like 100k... not super low miles but better then the 217 on the current engine. i'll probally replace the head gaskets and stuff before it goes in

wow nice find...Mine was 1K at 70k mi...but how bout doin that timing belt too while your in there. I know its a non interference motor so it doesnt really matter if the timing belt goes, but it is kinda a pain. Thats what i did with mine when i got it.

yeah thats what i meant... i'm doing everything to the motor that i can when it's out... i didnt know EJ22Ts were non interference. Learn new things every day ;) Also are the waterpumps known to go bad in these?

you'd generally change the water pump while doin the timing belt, but the internals of the turbo water pump are the same as the N/A pump. Yours lasted that 200+ mi so i dont see why this one should break. But It will let you know when its going, start leaking when the seal breaks from a worn shaft.
ya know what will break, That plastic coolant resevoir, Save yourself the aggrivation and buy one from a wrx or sti, they are actually metal.
I just had to change mine, started leaking all over the place, I used one from an 04 sti.

Any progress on the swap??? My Buddy luke is considering doing the very same thing and had questions on the wiring
very old thread ... and imho the ej22t swap is not worth it when a jdm ej20 makes another 100 hp and has easier wireing

The JDM motor would be nice but we live in SE Wisconsin with strict emissions standards... I am a complete noob and know I should search but can the JDM ej20 be made to pass emissions on the OBD1 level?
