So my friend found this:

http://tw.image.bid.yahoo.com/users/5/9/9/5/hirockfz-img600x450-1132035409dsc01848-10.jpg

And wants to drop it into a '95 5spd Legacy wagon. What issues are there and what else should he be ready to be replacing. The wagon already has upgraded brakes and suspension, so no worries there.

Goals are: Cheap. Easy swap to stock (for this engine) power, maybe a slightly bigger than stock exhaust like a modern WRX or STi system. The car doesn't have to be tested via OBD, just the sniffer test. He will want at least one cat in the downpipe I think.

Could he could run it off either an early WRX or JDM Legacy ECU, back that up with a similar fuel pump and then just deal with the splice? How about the old EJ22T Leg Turbo ECU? I'm thinking he will need:

Legacy turbo or GC8 crossmember
pipes, pump and radiator for the AWIC
some kind of air intake system
a MAF sensor (what type?)
an ECU (which one?)
TBE
bigger fuel pump (what will fit?)
upgraded clutch?

Thanks guys!

It's been done and should work great.
The splice is a b!tch.
I have a complete uncut loom with all the sensors and ECU for the turbo legacy.
Also have the EJ20G ECU that plugs in to the Turbo Legacy loom, you'd just have to rewire for coil on plug.

Good luck - Eric

im about to put a ej20g into a MY94 GF8(same wiring problems). And if you know what you are doing you can get it done in a day, the entire swap and everything. If you have to figgure stuff out, ill take you like 2-3weeks.

Your stock maf will work.
You will want a walbro255, will be more then plunty.(you will have to hardwire it in i think. dont belive they make them for the old style settups)
You will need the MAP, Boost solenoid, and all the other stuff that comes with it on the bracket(ill be on the pass. side next to strut on turbo cars).
You will deff. want a new clutch, and i would highly recomend a new tranny(unless you granny it)
ECU, you can get off any jdm legacy turbo(unless you have an air to air ic).
Also make sure you get the EJ20G harness. Ive been looking for one, and the cheapest i could find was 1800 brand new from japan(not cheap). The wiring is about 10-15 wires, so it can be done quicklly

one more thing, have like 200bux handy when you do the swap. Random stuff adds up quick.

redwagon,
He can run it off of either an early WRX ECU or the Legacy Turbo one. I used a WRX ECU when I did it on a '90. The thing the WRX ECU lacks is control for the pump for the AWIC. But you can sort that out with some custom stuff.

If you don't have access to the correct 4 channel ignitor, it may be easier to use the Legacy Turbo stuff and just add a coil pack on the top. That would also require switching the engine harness from the Ej20G harness to the Legacy turbo one. Then you use DOHC Ej25 plug wires in place of the coil on plug ignition.
