View Full Version : SZ55 on V7 EJ207??
beecha91 11-21-2005, 10:12 PM Hey guys,
Trying to decide on my turbo choice. It's between a green/sz49, sz55 or fp red. I like the power the red made but might be too much even for a v7 motor. So I thought SZ55 might be middle of the road but have never read of any on v7's or 8's. Let me know what you guys think, Thanks

beecha91 11-22-2005, 12:13 AM Nick you cant sell yours, wont be the same man! I already have the v7 coming. You have the 180 right or still the 160, maybe I'll take that off ya ;)

DoctorNick 11-22-2005, 01:45 AM I was running a 49 on my car right now (v7). Was fun a fun setup.
Redline8k 11-22-2005, 02:06 PM Don, I wouldnt run the SZ55 on the 207, I think the biggest I would go would be a gt30 and I would get wither the .64 or the .82 exhaust housing.
Neal has the sz49 and its fast. With a better tune (ha) and better gas his car would crush mine. Ive been in sti's with the 55 and its laggy on the 2.5L...even for me. As for my diff, yes it is a 180 but Id like to sell the whole car rather than parting it out. The jury is still out if Im going to sell it. I may wait until next summer and take it to Autoban raceway and see what the car does on the road course. Id like to get an S2k but Im not sure Id be comfortable...Let me know when you get the motor Ill help you put it in.

DoctorNick 11-22-2005, 02:12 PM Giant in a small car
Sz49 is about as big as I would get on a 2.0L and if I was gonna do it all over again. I would have gone directly to a rotated mount gt30r.
Do take Nick's comment about lag with a little bit of salt. He has a setup with virtually no lag and it runs like a freight-train. To him, a stock wrx is prolly laggy
I'm leaving the chicago 2.0L club. good luck guys.
Scoobs2002 11-22-2005, 02:33 PM 35R all the way.....IMHO its the best. If your a drag racer or from "the roll" racer it cant be beat...unless you go to a bigger turbo.
Peace,
Scoobs

I'm running a custom SZ55 on a stock EJ205, and its actually quite liveable. Full boost hits around 4700 RPM in 3rd gear, and I'm no where close to finished tuning the car since my UTEC's serial port died. Also, even at partial boost, the turbo pulls good enough to get around town.
I wouldn't hesistate to put this turbo on a v7 STi motor; I would love to run this turbo out to 8K RPM "safely". Granted, I would probably go bigger eventually since the STi motor has more RPM to play with.
Peeblesmx445 11-22-2005, 05:48 PM I am putting an FPRED on my stock block ej205 tonight as a matter of fact! We will just have to wait and see how it goes. I let you all know when I do a write up on it next week.

This is a really good comparison of 4 different EJ207s, with 4 different turbo's on 2 different Dynapacks located within Maryland.
The SZ55 should fall between the SZ49 (green line) and the FPRed (red line).
The SZ49 and Red are stock mount, the SC61 and GT35R are rotate mount. All cars were running similar supporting mods. And boost ranged from 28-32 psi or so.
The SZ49 was running 28-29 psi.
Enjoy:)

dug-e-fresh 11-22-2005, 06:53 PM Both an 8cm Red and an 8cm SZ49... 7cm versions should spool a "little" quicker and have a "little" less top end.
I changed the picture link to show a VF series turbo to kinda put things into perspective. It was a VF36 on an EJ207, and dynoed 320 whp / 273 wtq @ 18 psi.

Capt Crunch 11-22-2005, 07:16 PM def, you just made me decide to get a green/sz49. Thanks.
Too bad I'll have to shift at 7k to get the best out of it. That elusive 8k redline will forever tease me.
why..with the sz49 there is 300tq at 7k and 400hp at past 7.5k. I would spin her untill 7.5k at least

change gears at 7k and you'll be near 6k. that will maximize the area under the hp curve, which was what you want to do to maximize performance.
