Who knows of a good exaust system for a '92 Impreza. I have my eyes set on the Tanabe Racing Medalion or possibly Hyper medalion. What else looks and sounds good?

Aspen_2.5RS jImp 09-05-2001, 12:19 AM 92 Impreza? I thought they were sold in 93 subysouth 09-05-2001, 02:28 AM 92 Impreza? lyingsonofabitch 09-05-2001, 11:41 AM ok yeah, the car was originally bought by my grandmother in '92 and she told me that was what year it was. I neglected to think however that usually companies try to get an early start, such as why Subaru is already selling the 2002 model of the WRX and Mitsubishi is already selling the 2002 model of the "Lancer" yet it is still 2001. Not to mention that I'm new to the Subaru game and Im still trying to lay the foundation to build a vast knowledge on these cars. So I give all of you that posted a big "piss off!" for doing nothing but trying to make the newbie look retarded. m750 09-05-2001, 11:58 AM LSOB- you prolly have a 1.8 l motor. The exhuats designed for the 2.5 are prolly way too large for your motor and will loose more power than you'll gain. Also exhausts that are 'pre' made are a waste of money. Go to your local custom exhaust shop, and have them make you a stainless cat back system w/ a universal stainless muffler. I'm guessing you'll want an id of 2 max. Boxers sound really good with any high flow muffler, so I wouldn't be too worried about it. If you want it quiter get a resinator put in. This of course is if your doing the exhaust as a performance mod, and not a sound mod... AO lyingsonofabitch 09-05-2001, 01:38 PM m750- I'm also planning on getting an engine swap, depending on what engine will fit (WRX or 2.5), so it will definately be a performance mod. I do however want the exaust to look and sound good. I would most likely be getting the exaust before the engine swap rather than at the same time, and I wouldnt be racing until I got the engine, so I have no problem with temporary power loss. I dont want something thats going to suck the life from my car though. I know a lot of people on this forum will probably suggest a scooby sport exaust, which I have checked out and I must say Im interested. Does anybody here have a Scooby Sport exaust? If so, how were they to deal with? Did you get everything you needed right away or were there problems with the shipping & handling? Other exausts I've cheched out are the A'pexi N1, and as previously said the Tanabe Racing Medalion and Hyper Medalion. m750 09-05-2001, 02:11 PM I maybe mistaken but I think either engines would fit. As for mufflers... on is turbo, the other is not, that should play a large role in what muffler you get aswell. NA motors require a certain amount of backpressure which is something you don't want in a turbo motor. Turbo mufflers are designed differently than NA ones... just more of my .02 lyingsonofabitch 09-05-2001, 11:22 PM what happens if I go with the 2.5 engine but I want to go with a turbo kit later down the road. Should I get the turbo exaust and just deal with the power loss for the time being or should I get the N/A exaust and sell it later when I needa turbo one? *If I do end up going with the 2.5 motor it would take some time to save up more money, not to mention pay off the loan I would need for the engine, for the turbo kit. Would a temporary n/a exaust be the wise choice? Can anyone tell me how much a Scooby Sport exaust costs with shipping fees? jImp 09-06-2001, 03:12 PM With a turbo you'll want 2.5-3.0 inch piping. You'll see a large loss in power if you put the 2.5 inch or the 3.0 inch on right now with the 1.8 L motor, but it will create an awesome sound. The Scoobysport costs $600 from SPD tuning, and that's only for the muffler. You won't see any power increases from the exhausts on the market now, but if you get a turbo, it won't be too bad. Some guy on here has put a turbo on a 1.8L motor. lyingsonofabitch 09-06-2001, 03:52 PM ...$600 for the muffler alone? NEVERMIND! m750 09-07-2001, 10:40 AM like I said... go to a custom exhaust shop, and get something made... should be under 3 for something nice in stainless. AO Layman 09-07-2001, 11:08 AM Hell, just get a stock RS exhaust if it'll bolt up. It'll be as big as you want an exhaust to be for your engine, and you'll be able to use it if you swap in a 2.5L engine. |
