I have an 05 STI with stock rims and RE 070. I would like to replace the RE 070 (too noisy and rough for my taste) with Kumho SPT (or other equivalently priced tires). I would like to put Kumho SPT 245/40 17 on the stock rims. Can anyone give me feedback and opinions/experience on the performance of the Kumho's and comparison between the RE 070 and the Kumho SPT (noise, grip dry and wet, side wall, etc...) or other tires. I do not use the car for track, autoX, etc, just normal everyday driving with few high speed corners of course :D .

Are the Falken FK-451 superior to the Kumho SPT?

Falken RT615 in size 245/45/17. The little taller sidewall helps with comfortability and you gain using a wider tire that shares the same handling characteristics of the RE070. Not to mention that the STI can benefit from a taller tire in a high horsepower situation due to it's 'Integra Type R-like' gearing. It's a win-win situation. Anything less aggressive on the STI is doing it and yourself a real disservice. Just my opinion!

Thanks for the info. How is the noise level of the RT-615 compared to Re 070?

I have asked a sales person at Discount tire and he recommended the Kumho SPT over the Falken 451? I do not have any experience with neither tire and just surfed for info. I am looking for a tire somewhat equivalent to the RE 070 but with less noise and roughness. I am willing to trade sme dry performance for noise and smoothness. Please advice on the Kumho SPT versus others in its price range. I have to put an order today...

OK.. I am with you. Do you recommand FK451 (245/40 17) or ST115 (225/45 17). What is the largest size that fits 05 OEM STI rims without hitting....

I called subaru of dallas and they told me that 245/40 17 are the largest size without havingthe rear tires hit... So, I have ordered Falken-451 with 245/40. Thanks for your help.
