View Full Version : Tire got ripped from rim after a nasty slide
chrismindless 11-24-2005, 06:08 PM I was driving down the street and its snowing, and someone in front lost control so I turned to avoid them and in the process hit a sewer grate that ripped the tire off my front rim, the tire was folded into it self, down the middle ,,, my rim took a ton of cosmetic damage ... from inspection the rim looks like it will work BUT im curious on the tire, its a snow tire w/ 2000 miles on it. I put on the spare BUT i feel a bit of fighting in the front end, its real slight, it cuold just be the tire BUT im not drivnig the car, its sitting after a 3 mile drive until i can get the tire to the store...
My question is, can the tire be saved? Should I try to open the tire up or just let it sit and stretch? Any help greatly appreciated ...
and if the tire cant ill hav eto buy a new one BUT where can i have the new tire shaved down to match the other 3 ...
chrismindless 11-24-2005, 06:42 PM BTW i should mention that after the police showed up, they wrote everyone a ticket that went off road to avoid the Tahoo ... what crap is that!
Samirr76 11-24-2005, 06:51 PM i wouldnt take a chance, get a new tire
chrismindless 11-24-2005, 06:51 PM i just did!! I just bought 4 new ones with 2000 miles on each ...
Samirr76 11-24-2005, 06:53 PM no....one new tire....
chrismindless 11-24-2005, 07:02 PM the other tires are worn down from their original state, on an STI im told that all 4 wheels have to be the same tread or risk destroying the LSDs ... i had a blow out a few months ago, lost 2 tires, of a NEW SET of 4 w/ 3000 miles on them and the tread was worn enough that subaru said NEW TIRES ... here i am one NEW TIRES but now I have one thats destroyed... its touch luck, sure but honestly im not buying anymore tires, maybe one, but even then i might have to have it shaved ... anyone know where to have that done.

Get a new tire.
Difference between the new and the old ones should not be enough to make a difference.
If you are really really really worry about it, get the new one shaved.
Tirerack shave some race tires. They may be able to shave your snow.
chrismindless 11-24-2005, 07:35 PM Ill contact tirerack ^^^ thanks for the useful info!

If you are unable to stop in time in the event of the person in front of you losing control or stopping, you are too close and driving unsafely. This is the reason for your ticket.
chrismindless 11-25-2005, 01:27 AM ^^^ if that was the reason it would have been clear assured distance ... it wasnt, has nothing to do with being too close ... it was traffic, i was no different than the cars around me! i was quite far away ... i moved out of the way because stuff was happening fast, i had room to react ... i was sited for crossing the boundary of the road ... "CROSSING THE LINE"
The female driver of the Tahoo caused quite a mess for a lot of people ...

I'm sorry to say but if you don't leave enough space to stop correctly your in the wrong. Driving in the snow you should leave extra room to correct. And just because everyone esle was traveling faster or packed tight does excuse you from the laws of pysics. I'm not trying to put you down or anything it's something I have done in the past also and belive me I learned my lesson. Just because your car and Go fast in the snow does not mean it can stop fast.

First of all I said I did the same thing my self so i'm not being mightier then you. Fact of the matter is IF YOU CANNOT CONTROL YOUR CAR YOUR ARE WRONG PERIOD
Yes I feel bad for you your messed up your rim and now will be riding on an unsafe tire. Which will most likely blow and cause another accident. I just hope you don't take someone else out with you.
PS I see where your name comes from Mindless is right.
waktasz 11-25-2005, 05:44 PM Calm down chris, he wasn't being a dick, just explaining his situation and also explaining why the cops gave everyone tickets. He is pretty much right on. Sucks that you got one because your tire got F-ed up but if you had left enough distance you could have just applied the brakes and stopped and not had to swerve out of the way onto a sewer grate.
ps- what tires were you running?
