So I am all packed up for the first time out on the new/used snowmachine. I was first planning on going all the way out to Petersville but I am not sure I want to make that far of a drive. I know that Hatchers is not yet officially open but can't you ride on the Willlow side? The reports were saying they have at least 40 inches up there.
Any thoughts on where to ride? Has anyone gone out yet?

i rode broadpass/cantwell like a month ago and i wish i would have gone to hatchers, i guess the snow has been quite nice there. And yes the willow side is open, they never close it.

Alaska is unique in that Snomachine is something to play with. Normally people in the lower 48 call snomachines the things that make snow at ski resorts. Its an Alaskan thing. I only am familar with Snowmobile because I read some magazines.
We went out to Petersville yesterday and it was awesome. Since both of us have (new to us) sleds, we stuck close to the truck and had great times. Lots of powder in some of the bogs (3-5 feet). Still a bit slushy under the snow but sweet none the less. Next time its up to Hatchers for some practice in the hills...

actually I believe the whole snowmachine/snowmobile is latitude dependent of sorts. I had a discussion with some peopel a while back and alaskans call them snowmachines (or more commonly sleds) and there was a split of wat they found out from the lower 48 of calling them mobiles or machines. I forget the division, but seemed like waaaay north eastern called them machines, while northern central states mobiles.

yea i used snowmachine in FL, then i had to follow up with a 30 minute explanation of how it was a sled and not a snow blower.........
