View Full Version : Kumho MX's vs. 712 vs. ASX?
zoomfactor 11-25-2005, 04:03 PM Just looking for some feedback on these tires. I've been running a set of MX's that I picked up on closeout from Tire Rack. I live in So Fla so rain is the only consideration. The ASX's are on sale for $88 and the MX's for $107.
I have two sets of competition rims & rubber in the garage so for this set I'm looking for something that gives decent performance with an emphasis to longevity. I loved the stick of the MXs but I smoked through a set pretty quickly;)
afviper 11-25-2005, 05:31 PM Haven't had experience with any of these tires. The ASX is an all season tire, it wouldn't perform as well on warm, dry pavement as the summer tires.
Rich10 11-25-2005, 08:02 PM The MX is a sticky max performance tire. The 712 is a bottom rung, high performance tire. The ASX is an all season tire. They are different tires for different uses. In choosing between these tires, there is a tradeoff between performance and wear.
The best performing tire would clearly be the MX. The others will have better tread life. Other high performing affordable choices would include the Hankook RS2 and the Falken 451.
Uncle Scotty 11-25-2005, 10:31 PM .....d000d....do yourself a BIG favor and do NOT buy any all season tire.
The 712 is JUNK.....the ASX is NOT a performance tire.
Hankook Z212 or Falken 451....or the Falken 115 for longer life....take your pick

Wow three unrelated tires...
I think you answered your own question with the MX's...
The ASX's are decent all seasons if thats what you want. The 712s are loud, hard riding, decent gripping and CHEAP summers.<-- Basically what you'd run if you are looking for thr cheapest tire possible while retaining some grip.
What Scotty said...
Falken 451's, or ST115's. I think the RS-2's are too close to the MX's in terms of life.
Uncle Scotty 11-26-2005, 01:24 AM ...yo....zoomie...what size ya lookin' for???
subeesteve25 11-26-2005, 02:45 AM Hey how are the mx's, I'm thinking of getting these. I live in so cali so weather is basicaly all warm n dry. How long do they last, just daily driving, no track use. Im really considering them. Now I have yoko es 100s which are ok but not that great, the mx's look much better though. thanks

....the z212's are better...and cheaper
poison 11-26-2005, 03:33 PM I got my RS2's yesterday!!! They look beefy As hell. My car is in the body shop, but once its out, I'll give my review.
BTW, bought em at tires.com in 205/50/16 for $85 shipped, and Americas Tire Co mounted and balanced them for $10 a pop.
WRXDriftR 11-26-2005, 06:48 PM i got ASXs for my stock 16" rims for winter use ONLY. They are teh suck at lateral grip but have fairly good snow traction (we'll see about that). but compared to my warm weather Proxes T1S, these ASX tires are squishy and give up pretty quick, but for 68/tire its not horrible.
beats the RE92s !!

I have run both the 712's 711's and the ASX's
The 712's suck in the rain. ( I live in the Northwest, so I have PLENTY of Rain experience.) But the grip is pretty good. The ASX's are much better in t he rain, but you give up some of the sidewall stiffness and grip.
