View Full Version : 245/40-17 not practical for street only? suban 11-25-2005, 05:49 PM i wanted to go with 245/40-17+46 but i was wondering if it would be a waste, or just not a good choice. i want somthing to fill the wheel wells. i drive a 04 wrx sedan KAIBUTSU 11-25-2005, 06:08 PM 235/45 on my sti and it fills nicely on 17x8 rota torques suban 11-25-2005, 06:19 PM does it drive well or will it follow alot more cracks in the road Scott Farmer 11-25-2005, 06:28 PM Alignment and tire choice (not tire size) will affect tramlining (following grooves in the road) more than width. For example, toe out or zero toe in the front will tramline more than toe-in. Max-performance tires will tramline more, as well. rex n effect 11-25-2005, 06:43 PM Those should fit OK. If you want to do it, go for it. Are your wheels wide enough (17x8)? Flexx999 11-25-2005, 08:12 PM can you put that size of tire on a 7.5" wide rim? nhluhr 11-25-2005, 09:18 PM can you put that size of tire on a 7.5" wide rim? they fit, but it's not really recommended. Driving_Miss_Daisy 11-25-2005, 10:46 PM You can put 235/45 on a 7/5" rim. That is the max size you can go for that rim. If you go up ot 245/40 you will need a 8" rim minumal. suban 11-25-2005, 11:05 PM they are 17x8 mb motorsport weapons are they any good? what would be a good alignment ? will it hurt my mpg much? thanks 4 the help Driving_Miss_Daisy 11-25-2005, 11:13 PM A 225/45 tire spins 833 times/mile @ 45mph. A 245/40 tire spins 841 times/mile @ 45mph. So that is pretty close. Maybe 1 or 2 mph at 60. Nothing major. Alignment for a racer negative camber on the fronts. Street driver 0 camber on the front. But just changing the rims and tires will not affect your alignment. Uncle Scotty 11-25-2005, 11:57 PM A 225/45 tire spins 833 times/mile @ 45mph. A 245/40 tire spins 841 times/mile @ 45mph. Street driver 0 camber on the front. no....NOT.....NEVER '0' camber. ...stop posting bad juju. suban 11-26-2005, 12:17 AM i was wondering how my gas milage would be affected Scott Farmer 11-26-2005, 12:59 AM no....NOT.....NEVER '0' camber. ...stop posting bad juju. My alignment guy said the alignment spec for a Ford Taurus is positive camber. So, you know, if you wanted that kind of handling... rex n effect 11-26-2005, 03:49 AM Positive camber in the front is actually within "spec". That's how bad the specs are. Zero the toe all around and get some negative camber in the front for even tire wear. With the wider tires, gas mileage will suffer VERY slightly, as will tramlining in my experience. Whether it's worth the extra meat is up to you. For me, it was very worth it :) . The size and offset of those wheels is great for wider tires. suban 11-26-2005, 03:13 PM thanks alot that is what i waanted to hear Jim Lewis 11-26-2005, 05:24 PM Here's those MB Motorsports Weapons on my Saab 9-2X, 46mm offset, 17 x 8, gunmetal, with 215-45-17 tires.... http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c236/valleyautomotive/saabaru.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c236/valleyautomotive/saabaru2.jpg I really want to see if a 235/40 or 245/40 would fit when I replace tires next time.
