View Full Version : can't find SSR comps for 114 hub.. What now?
ndw1138 11-25-2005, 07:29 PM OK it's been months of search now.. I havent seen a single wheel that compares to the SSR comp.. less than 14 lbs, and the 8.5" width on the 17's. Can anyone recommend anything that compete's with this wheels? I'm more interested in a 17 than a 18, but if I could find a 18" SSR comp I'd probably just go that route.
(this is for a 05 STi).

qingshan 11-27-2005, 11:36 PM The reason you are having trouble (so I hear) is that SSR is out of business. Thus there are no 114 being made.
Think Volk or Gram Light both have 17x8.5 are forged and real light
petawabit 11-28-2005, 06:03 AM another rim that fits your criteria are the buddy club p1 qf's. I think they weigh around 14 lbs for the 17x8.5
Luke@tirerack 11-28-2005, 02:29 PM the SSR's will be available again in the springtime
shemoves 11-28-2005, 06:34 PM Luke...will they make it in a 17x8? Also, will they still be forged? And last but not least, what is the projected cost?
Advan RG2's come in the 17x8.5 +50 size so that you can put 255's on the 05's without rubbing. As far as weight.....not sure but i think they are like 15-16 lbs for that size.
Hey Luke how certain are you that they will be instock by the spring and about what month do you think they will be in. I like the SSR's but no one has them so I was thinking of going the Advan RG2 route so that ill have race wheels for next year.
Luke@tirerack 11-30-2005, 10:05 AM SSR went into production of their SSF products on 11-20-05 .... so, they will be here in Feb. or March (atleast that's what I am being told at this time)

Enkei ES Tarmacs:

17x8 is 15.2 lbs, so 17x8.5 wouldn't be much heavier, and they're cheaper. Rallispec is running a GB on them as we speak.

shemoves 12-01-2005, 01:55 AM anyone know the weight on RG2s? Also, do they make it in a 17x8 with proper ET/bolt pattern for the '05 STi?

05 Bolt pattern for this wheel has a bad offset. I think its down in the low 40's or maybe the high 30's. Not the kind of offset you are gonna want to run with 255's!

Seems like this is something good to know. I know basically what offset is...however, what are the effects on the various componants of the car (wheel bearings) by having an offset that is too low? Also, being that you specifically mentioned 255s...would a narrower tire be ok to run with an offset closer to 40?
^^Well for the record the offset for the Enkei's are +40. Some people say that an offset of this or lower is a bad idea for wheel bearing wear if you are going to use these for everyday use. I dont know how true this is nor do I have any coment on this because I have never personally used wheels of this offset. I do know there are people out there who run this offset on their everyday wheels and have no probs at all.
I want to run an offset around +48 to +50 on a 17x8.5 wheel because I want to run a 255/40 tire for auto-x and track events. The +40 would prob get me into rubbing issues with this tire size unless I did fender mods. I bet a smaller tire size with the +40 offset would work but im not sure what tire size would give you no rubbing issues.
shemoves 12-01-2005, 06:15 PM It makes sense that it could cause bearing issues...correct me if I am wrong, but changing the offset would be like putting like moving the fulcrum on a teeter-totter.

Here is a link to Tanabe the new owners of Speed Star.

It looks like They are making 17 x8 for both 5/100 and 5/114.3 but the 5.114.3 gets a crappy +40 offset.
