I am thinking of going from a 205/55/16 to a 225/60/16, would this be a good idea? Also, if the rim size is the same I could put those on the same wheels right?

View Full Version : Thinking of switching to a wider tire Judsonkg 11-25-2005, 08:19 PM I am thinking of going from a 205/55/16 to a 225/60/16, would this be a good idea? Now, a 225/50R16 wouldn't be too bad, assuming your wheels are wide enough (which, if they are stock WRX wheels, they are not really wide enough). DrD 11-25-2005, 09:40 PM Yup - the 225/60's would be around 1.7 inches larger in diameter - that's going to mess things up a bit. Lots of people have run 225/50's on the stock WRX rims, but I agree with nhluhr - they are really too wide for the rims (your gains from the wider contact patch would be offset to a degree by the larger sidewall) HomerJay 11-25-2005, 09:41 PM Yes, you want to go 225/50/16's. You probably want to get some wider rims, something in the neighborhood of 16x7 or 16x7.5, although they will work on stock rims. Judsonkg 11-26-2005, 07:45 PM I looked and 225/50 are the plus zero size along with 245/45, would the traction be a plus, considering the side walls would be 225 X .50 = 112.5 compared to stock 205 X .55 = 112.75? express_wagon 11-26-2005, 09:36 PM I looked and 225/50 are the plus zero size along with 245/45, would the traction be a plus, considering the side walls would be 225 X .50 = 112.5 compared to stock 205 X .55 = 112.75? sidewall of 205/55/16 and 225/50/16 are basically the same (good thing because your speedo will be accurate) but whats important is the width. each 225/50/16 would be roughly 0.8" wider. if you're gonna put it on stock 6.5 wheels, prepare for squishy sidewalls and slower turn-in but you'll still have better outright grip. HAL1 11-27-2005, 02:04 AM From the little I know (as my wife will tell you), you don't want wider if you're in wisconsin and will have them on in the the snow. Judsonkg 11-27-2005, 02:16 AM thanks, good to know. |
