Went to hatcher pass for my touge run, and came across an older couple with their car stuck on the side of the road, apparently they ran out of gas and let their battery die by having the heater on. The older gentleman said he had been there for a couple of hours and tried to wave down cars but no one stopped, and they had no reception on their cell, so he gave up trying to stop cars, and went back to check on his wife.
I gave them both mre's :p and gave them a ride into Wasilla, and called AAA, he said that I "saved his life", i was like um... ok, or something, and he kept trying to give me money, i dont know how much, but it was a lot of 20's.
Just gives me a warm and fuzzy
Now for the touge action photos :p

lol! Those are some sweet pictures... Did you set-up a tripod or something inside? I'm going to have to learn how to drive better at the autocrosses, I'm too afraid to do anything crazy in the snow. (I'm a pansy... :( ) -Gene

You probably did save those two from freezing to death.

Still, I am sure you have done other, and will keep doing, good deeds this year.

Cheers

Props to you, being a side road you probably did save their lives. Being elderly makes it more difficult to survive in the frigid temps than us youngins. I guess you can thank god for having to go pee, or they can.

Its sad a few cars went by without stopping, what is wrong with the world today? Granted, in town I dont pull over for everyone in distress, but out in the boonies like that.. why not??

I know, I was thinking the same thing. It's not like deciding to stop for an abandonded car, just in case someone was in it (which I'd still do) but the poor guy was flagging them down??? That's some cold-hearted ****, right there.

iirc it's illegal in alaska to drive by without stopping when a car is disabled.

drive to palmer, go through the town and keep going like your heading towards glenn allen, you will see a sign like .5 miles out side of palmer that says hatchers pass, take it, the road is called palmer fishhook or...

you can head to wasilla, and right before you get into town your will see an exit for trunk road, take that exit and turn right, follow this road straight for like 10 miles until it comes to a T, once at the T go left, now you are on palmer fishhook or....

go into wasilla, once you pass the carrs their is a stoplight, take a right there, the road is called wasilla fishhook, follow it until you come to a T, go left at the T, you once again are on palmer fishook. or....

go through wasilla and head towards willow, once you enter willow you will see a sign for a road that says hatchers pass, take it, this is the long way though

i find it fun.... there are a couple other good roads, Potter Valley (off seward hwy) i try not to drive crazy there, residential, Highland Rd (eagle river, landfill exit), Flattop Mtn/Upper Huffman, and High Caynon rd, (eagle river, near the wal mart, very dangerious rd, constant switchbacks),
but Hatcher Pass is by far the best, almost zero traffic at night and no houses.

I didn't save anybody's life, but last weekend I found a wallet and got ahold of the guy through his USAA account to return it. Next day I won $300 playing texas holdem on a casino ship down here in Texas. Karma maybe.

Anyone hear about that guy a few days ago, pulled over to help a couple on the side of the road and got his car stolen at knifepoint. It was just found today thanks to the publicity of the newspapers. Even if it is the law to help someone out just remember to be careful! ;)

I got on the NS north off Dimond (3:30) and all hell was in progress. 5 cars off the side directly across the merge lane. One lane blocked by a new slide.
A small circle of victims (7-8) all chatting. A blue ranger in the rear view doing 360's into the ditch. I slowed to about 5 and was torn between getting another panic stopper behind me wipeing everyone out and trying to help out.

I had to keep moving. I felt a little bad but I didn't wan't to be part of a pileup on the overpass article.

Then a Mini Cooper S came slaloming through traffic like It's the Bourne Identity part 3 or something. My tires piss me off.
