i know this sounds weird, but i have to see if anyone has ever had this problem before...

...but i was running my summer PS2's until today when i put on my winter tires/rims (dunlop winter sport M2's on tarmac II's). i have run this setup the past 2 winters.

now here is the problem- when i make a left-hand turn, after the turn, the wheel wants to be left of center to make the car go straight (maybe 10*). once i make a right-hand turn, the wheel will be back on center. i have tightened and re-tightened the lugs, and nothing is loose to what i can tell. all the tires have sufficient air in them as well (i went to the gas station to check/fill up the tires).

has anyone had this problem before?

thanks in advance, its driving me crazy.

I had this problem before. It's not your wheels, it's your steering bushings.

Get some whiteline steering bushings and alignment and it should fix your problem.

Definitely the steering rack bushings. Drive up on ramps, then crawl under and watch how much the steering rack moves while a friend turns the wheel a little bit.

Luckily the Whiteline steering rack bushings are an easy swap and inexpensive.

I'll 3rd the WL steering rack bushings.

Stock, I didn't get any of the "steering wheel memory," but as soon as I modded the suspension (3,000 miles) with springs and swaybars it was very prevalent. After a couple of more suspension upgrades it was still there, even with coilovers (I'd incorrectly thought the aftermarket springs may be the cause).

Swapped in the bushings a few weeks ago and poof, steering wheel memory is 100% gone. The passenger side bushing was even worn through on top, at 18,500 miles. Poor design--no wonder the '05+ STi got an upgrade. If you have mechanical ability the job is fairly easy, especially if you remove enough parts for access.
