I plan on purchasing a MY01 RS in a couple months and was wondering if they are targeted as much as WRX's are. I live very near campus in a college town and have seen one WRX that got keyed badly.

Also does full coverage cover a paint job if my car gets keyed?

Full coverage should cover vandalism, but it depends on how big the damage is on your car, and your deductable on your insurance. But if your car is keyed mine as we'll damage it more to get your whole money right? Jk

In my college days, cars are always targets for theft. My advice is keep the car stock during your college days until you can garage the car. A good alarm system can help but if they want it, they will get it. If you want people to notice your car, then pretty say bye bye to it. If you keep it dirty and less noticeable, the less likely something will happen to your car. Full coverage will cover your car being keyed.

Sure seems like it. I have seen hate crimes and outright theft jsut listening to others. I am glad to have my baby protected in a garage at night....

i'm with SlimSE. any car you have during your college days is a target, so might as well keep it stock or in a garage.

I am not sure what eugene oregon is like but if you live in a city you always have to worry a little bit...I know where I live we had some break ins a long time ago but just be careful and buy full insurance. Other than that you really can't stop someone from vadalizing your car.

Just park it next to some rich kid's BMW...it got me through school with no damage and was fun as hell when we ended up leaving at the same time.

*update from the OP*

Ok, check this out. I found a '02 WRX for cheaper than i could find an '01 RS!! I'm paying 11k for it. It does have high miles (94k), but I had my mechanic check it out and he found nothing wrong with it and says it has been a VERY well maintained vehicle. :D

I also called my insurance agent to get a quote for full coverage on it, and he say's 145/mo. I'm 22, male, with a clean record, but I read a lengthy thread about ins. rates and I was expecting to pay around 200.

Needless to say, I'm very excited. Finalizing things at the bank later today!

p.s. I'm moving into a house 20-25 mins away from campus, so I'm not that worried about the jealous acts of vandalism. At least not from college kids. I'll throw some pics up in a couple days.

Lesson: Own a crap car when you're in college. One where you wont care if it gets, say, flipped over...

Yeah UConn!

I'm not IN college. Never said I was. I have a fulltime job in a college town, and I live (for now) near campus.

Oh, and vandalism is bad at sports stadiums...

perhaps not intentional... but the spaces are so tight, and there's so many people walking by your car...

It gets brushed up against, bumped into, cans thrown at it by drunken tailgaters...

and most importantly, dinged by the doors of other idiots.

happened to me at giants stadium.
