So, it's time to get a count for the WRX install party coming up this Sunday the 9th at wrxnate's place. We will be installing 2 turbo back exhaust systems, 2 BOV's and a set of Euro side markers at the very least, time and equipment permitting.

I would like to know who is interested in coming. I would like to encourage anyone who would like to come to shop up, but only to a certain extent. Probably Nate's neighbors would not appreciate 35 cars in the driveway. Also keep in mind that if you show up you will most likely get put to work. So, if you feel like getting sweaty underneath someone else's car, this might be your opportunity!! :D

We will be barbecuing on a BYOM basis as well.

Please RSVP if you plan to come, and Nate or myself will email directions to you.

Thanks

JaMa

Picked up some used Legacey Turbo brakes a while back and still need to install them. It may be to big of a project for this weekend, but I'm still interested in helping out if not installing my stuff.

I wanna come...oh ya it's my turbo back getting installed...hehe. It arrived today btw. Are those my side markers as well JaMa? Should be fun, I need directions.

Yes those are your turn signals - should be a fun day, drilling holes, making the cars loud, etc etc etc. - then time to go for a test drive. :D I will get Nate to email you some directions.

Cheers,

I would've like to come up, but the wife is working...

What exhausts are you putting on? Have fun!

JaMa,
I left you a message tonight at home. I decided to just go ahead and install the Brullen. I work 9 to 5:30 tomorrow so give me a call at work and let me know what time for Sunday. Also are we doing a barbaque after words? If so I will need to make a trip to the store to get some things.

I think among us we should be able to handle the food - dont worry about it. I was thinking around noon but that is up to Nate - it's his house! :P

Scoobysport is on Nate's car as of about an hour ago. Wow! Its loud and stuff! Nate seems to think after the test drive that it makes nice power, but the dyno will be the last word. That system is nice, but crude. You can tell it is a hand made product. the downpipe is pretty cool - you can really hear the turbo winding up.

Anyway, more later. Lets plan on noon unless someone else decides otherwise.

Awww, you couldn't wait tell Sunday huh? :p My exhaust is sitting here in my living room waiting to be installed. It's killing me just looking at the thing. I can't wait tell Sunday! Is Nate's catless like mine? Is that the reason for the loundness factor? Noon is cool with me. Hope the weather is better then it is right now.

Yes his is catless - no CEL light yet either, but the air was pretty dense last night and he does in fact still have the up pipe cat too so maybe thats the reason.

We just went ahead and decided to do his because of the experiences with mine. I had a cross threaded bolt from the turbo to the downpipe (thanks a lot Subaru) from the factory on my car and we had to cut it off. So we went ahead and started last night just in case we needed more parts and his car ended up being out of commission for the weekend or something. I must say his went much more smoothly than mine. Plus, his car really really sounds like a race car now - very raw at high rpm especially. I am sure that anyone who has ever heard the full Scoobysport system will know what I am talking about.

One thing - did your system come with any gaskets? There is a gasket between the downpipe and cat pipe and another in front of the muffler which I bet are custom fit on a system with a 3 inch pipe diameter. we had to fabricate custom gaskets for his system since it did not come with them. My system fit in the stock locations so that is not an issue with mine.

I gotta hear this car. Is the sound livable? I bet it sounds sweet. We will have to line all 3 up together and give 'um some rev's. I have heard of people running the Brullen with no CEL either. I'm sure it will come on eventually though.

My system did come with both gaskets one is about the size of a baseball. I was not sure where it went but I think this is the piece your are talking about after the downpipe. My downpipe is also 2 pieces due the the race version. I had to wait for the big gasket to come in, that was another reason for the delay of it getting to me. The 3" pipe on my system is HUGE.

See you at noon tomorrow then. Are you guys going to be out front?

JaMa.
Oh ya, forgot to tell ya but GTBGuy is going to be paying for ALL my dyno time now due to the exhaust issue this week.

Hmmm... Livable sound is a VERY subjective thing IMHO.... Some people REALLY like loud, droning racy sounding exhausts, I dont happen to be one of them. In fact, my system is loud enough that I put the stock muffler back on until we hit the dyno. I am trying different combinations of muffler/resonator/etc. to see what level of sound I get. Tomorrow I will be putting the stock resonator pipe and the Stromung pipe back on to see what the sound differences are. I do have to say that there is a marked difference in performance from the Stromung backbox to the stock muffler (very restrictive). It feels like there is a 10 pound bag of potatoes stuck in my pipe ATM.

The Scoobysport system is loud - no 2 ways about it. We even tried it with the resonator pipe and its still loud. The downpipe rocks though. Loud or not, I have never heard cooler turbo noises than with that downpipe attached to his car.

I think someone like yourself could probably live with the noise - you have a heller sound system in your car. Me, with the kids and the wife riding with me all the time, I will probably long term go for something a little quieter.

Mmmmm, gotta love the Scoobysport....

So is it that much louder than mine (just the muffler)? I'd don't really think just the SS muffler is intrusive at all, at least while cruising. While you're on the gas it's another story. I'm considering getting the SS downpipe and leaving the third cat and resonator in place...although I'm curious to see if the CEL becomes an issue with Nate's car.

Which gasket did you have to make? Seems like you could just reuse the others since they match the stock diameter. The SS is supposed to fit in the stock locations so you can upgrade one piece at a time. I'm aware of two setups:

downpipe, center pipe, muffler (3 pieces) and
downpipe, 1st half of center pipe, 2nd half of center pipe and muffler (4 pieces)

It is WAY louder than yours - probably louder than mine was when we were at Suby Sports that weekend. Still, it sounds really good and there is a performance bump. I just get paranoid about things being too loud for the kids. Otherwise I dont think its an issue.

We had to make the gasket between the downpipe and the O2 sensor pipe. Since my setup is custom we also had to make that gasket for my car. We are getting to be real experts on making gaskets these days. :) I think the setup you mentioned may be a nice compromise - the scoobysports downpipe and backbox and the rest stock. Honestly the stock cat is not bad until someone comes up with a high flow center cat which dosent CEL and the resonator pipe is really close to the same size as the rest of the Scoobysport system anyway, so no worries. I think the biggest performance advantage is going to be getting the downpipe in there as it is proven by itself to free up a good bit of extra room for the turbo to spool.

Wow. I gotta hear it. Wonder what portion makes it that much louder? Are you still shooting for October for the shootout?

When I went from my backbox only to a complete system I noticed a large increase in noise, and I still have 2 cats and the muffler in place. The sound is all dependent on the muffler, but also on the amount of flow you ask it to handle. So, if you remove a lot of restriction and leave the same muffler it will be louder because that muffler will be asked to handle that much more air. I think this applies to any system.
