View Full Version : Last autox of the summer series. You talk the talk. Do you walk the walk?
Tangmere 09-05-2001, 01:59 PM Come on Colorado guys/gals. Its been the same bunch of Subaru owners all year at the RMsolo series (and they've been a great bunch to compete against). Lets make this a season finale to remember. I mean, there hasn't been one WRXs that I can remember seeing run at an event (wagons excluded). After all the hoopla and anticipation of the new WRXs, I'd like to think they can be a factor in the local autoxs. Aren't you the least bit curious as to how you stack up against everyone else? But to play, first you must show up.
If you're new to autox, there are many of us that are willing to help you with set up or any questions. You can even ride with some of us before you run. Don't let the level of competition scare you off. Everybody was new to this at one time or another. You're not voiding your warranty, because as you know, Subaru gave everyone an SCCA membership with the purchase of a WRX. And you're missing the group hug we do before and after we run...
September 23rd at Coors Field http://www.rmsolo.org/ be there.
Mark
PS. The shift-key does work!
bratmantlz 09-05-2001, 02:08 PM well if you didnt have to take out speaker boxes from the trunk i would be running i should have a timing belt by then. hell coors feild looked like a fun run.
Brat
eastbaysubaru 09-05-2001, 05:25 PM All I hear is talk, how long does it take to remove a speakerbox? Mark, you know I'd be there but I'm no longer in CO (and I happen to have a cast on my right foot) Oh well, looks like it'll be you and Dave again, hehehe.

Strepto 09-05-2001, 06:54 PM if you let me drive your car I'll be there :D (that's assuming I don't have a car ready)
DaveK 09-05-2001, 08:40 PM Strepto-New car this and new car that...quit whining and show up ;)
Brat- I take my speaker box out the night before each event...it's definately worth the 3 minutes it takes to do so.
Dave
KeithRS 09-05-2001, 08:41 PM I will be there as long as I don't have to fly out for work or anything. I think I still have some RE-92 tread to screech away on Coors Field... Unless I manage to save some money and buy those Azenis I have been looking at...
ImprezaRS dot com 09-06-2001, 01:36 AM I am gonna co-drive John Cox's 2,500 lb 1993 Street Mod Impreza at the 9/23/01 event - with 2.2L motor swapped in, lightweight pulley, intake, torque chip, and fuel pump - with used Kumho V700 15" race tires...
Should be interesting, I need a 961 out of 1000 points to move back into 1st place in SM :(

you don't HAVE to. as long as they're in there nice and tight and will not move around you're ok. Nothing FREE can be in the trunk or passanger compartment
Tangmere 09-06-2001, 01:54 AM Keith,
I'm headed up to Topeka next week and can give you a report from the fast guys in STS on the Azensis'. Eric K (an old friend from back East) is running them amongst others. They're getting to be the tire to have. I don't think you'll regret getting them.
Mark
PS. Rode Winter Park last week. Spectacular to say the least.
ImprezaRS dot com 09-06-2001, 02:16 AM I am sponsoring Eric Kriemelmeyer for the national championship, sent him a PRM Racing filter and the rest of the kit to cnvert his Rallispec instake into a colde air intake.
Hope he wins with my web domain plastered all over his car ;)

bratmantlz 09-06-2001, 02:16 AM hmmm my box is secure under the strut bar.... gonna get the timing belt tomarrow...
Brat
phast 09-06-2001, 11:55 AM Yah... I'm in. I've never auto-x'ed before so t'would be nice to have some support. Anybody got a helmet I can borrow? :D
DaveK 09-06-2001, 12:07 PM They've got loaners...not the nicest, but they'll do till you've decided whether or not you're into it enought to buy you own.
Dave
phast 09-06-2001, 01:20 PM Is this a SOLOII or ProSolo race?
DaveK 09-06-2001, 02:18 PM Solo II. I don't think we've got enough room at any of the local lots to run a "real" pro-solo.
Dave
Strepto 09-06-2001, 02:32 PM we had a prosolo event last year at coors :p SCCA brought out their trucks and all :D Was probably the most fun event we had all season. Shame they didn't do one this year :(

Watch for the bright green Rabbit driven by Kevin Wenzel (my brother) and Ian Mannix. I rode in it for a couple of laps the other day at 2nd creek as they were chasing down corvettes and 911s- very fun. I am looking forward to getting some tires and other mods and maybe being competitive...
I was at winter park last weekend- hordes of people riding with downhill bikes and lift tickets very slowly down the blue trails as I was going up. Nobody was riding down the mountain goat trail, though... Give me a holler if you want to set up another ride sometime.
To everybody who hasn't been to an autox yet, you really should come out. All you need is you, your car (with about 46/38 front/rear tire pressure if on RE-92s), and about 40 bucks. The autocrosses out here are the best run I have seen anywhere, with good courses and friendly people.
Well, I'll be there in my WRX wagon, demonstrating that Solo II is about the DRIVER much more than the car.
My goal for this event is to have more than one "good" (ie non-DNF) time per event. :(

DaveK 09-06-2001, 03:28 PM Just make sure you walk the course 2 or 3 times and pay attention while you're walking. Also, if you're able to (meaning you're a rookie), ride along with as many people as you can before its your turn, that way you can have a good familiarization wiht the course before you head out and race....at least that's what I do...if only they'd put SM in something other than the first heat :(
Dave
OldRacer 09-06-2001, 05:06 PM Well, got mine out for its first auto-X back on 7/28; will for sure be there the 23rd. Wonder where the Rex sedan folk have been hiding????
New rims, new rubber (bye-bye RE 92s....), new sway bar.... should be fun.....and maybe not so hot.

Tangmere 09-06-2001, 07:16 PM Dave,
Its just like the circus, they send in the clowns, dwarfs, and dancing bears in before the main event (STS)...
Mark
lewscour 09-06-2001, 07:27 PM Hi folks,
What is the cost to run the event. I read about $40.
Do I have to have a scca license?
Thanks
DaveK 09-06-2001, 07:35 PM Mark, Mark, Mark (shaking head)
the clowns were obviously sent in last...didn't you see the OSP Caviler's with their giagantic wings ;)
STS is for those afraid to compete in SM
Dave
Tangmere 09-06-2001, 07:42 PM No, you don't need an SCCA licence to run. It would be beneficial, however, for you to get one. In the long run it'll save you money on entry fees (about 5 bucks per event). And I think you save even more if you're under 26. It also gets you a subscription to the SCCA magazine and stickers for your car (good for at least a .10 of a sec).
When you get there (or before) don't hesitate to ask any of us questions you might have. If we don't know the answer, we'll find someone who does. All you really need to participate is a car, and as Dave mentioned earlier, loaner helmets are available at the event.
Mark
Tangmere 09-06-2001, 07:45 PM Dave,
Are you dictating to Brian? Cavelirs? Giagantic? Oh well, at least you know how to use the shift-key...
lewscour 09-06-2001, 07:48 PM Ok we will be there,
My fiance wants to run too, both 31 years old so no probs there,
We will be the White 01 RS with the JC Sports window banner
Tangmere 09-06-2001, 07:59 PM Go to http://www.rmsolo.org/ and register online in the next week or so. It'll save you $5 each.
See you there, Mark
