View Full Version : Winter tires
redinak 11-28-2005, 09:06 PM I am looking for the best winter tires. Anyone out there tried a few likes dislikes?
I am looking for real life experience not a manufacurer recommendation.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Getagrip 11-28-2005, 09:21 PM Nokian Hakka 2 the best. Hankook W404 best value.
Do a search this subject has been beaten to death :alien:
I've had Yokahama A-spec, Glacier Grips, Cooper ST/2, Hakka 10 and 1's, Hankook. All seem good. I don't wanna write an essay on all my experiences with each. Hakkas 2's seem to have the best feel on snow and on pavement. But my choice is Hankook W404 for value and performance.
Wes_FSTGDB 11-28-2005, 09:21 PM I run Blizzak LM-22's. They work great for me. It's a studless directional tire. I think a studded snow tire might perform better in deep snow, but for your basic 8 inches and patchy ice, they handle just fine. I think when stopping on ice the studless snow tire would out perform one with studs.
This of course is my own experience and using the DCCD. When it's snowing and lots of ice I use the 50/50 "lock" setting.

Haha I would have to agree with him on the subject being beaten to death.
Yes, Nokian's are the best and the most spendy. I ran them on my Acura TSX and even with FWD I had no problems at all. I wish I would've kept them for the STi.
AKSubie 11-28-2005, 09:29 PM You could do a search and probably find a few threads discussing the various tires people here are using. But in short there are ~3 main tires most popular.
1) Nokian Hakka's, Many of us have or had them, great tires but very pricey in the larger sizes.
2) Hankooks, so far seemingly a good low dollar alternative to the Nokians, from those of us coming from Nokians to the Hankooks noticed minimal differences in everyday in town driving.
3) Bridgestone Blizzaks, probably on par or better than the Hankooks, not quite the Nokians. Also are studless so no "clickity-clack" of studs.
4) Many have good luck with the costco tires, but the 3 above seem to be most popular.

sleeperXTc 11-29-2005, 12:30 AM Hakka 4s are being tried out by FXT owners in the lower 48...check SF forum.
They're pretty well liked...check out their webpage...lots to like.
I like my Haka 2's...just about can't break traction with FXT...stopping turning accelerating.
