I'm looking to get a gc8, but like a old subaru L or something like that but i wanted to put a good engine in it like an old version III. It looked like the best thing i could do but I'm new at this, What would you do???

I would use the search feature and then read the FAQ's at the top of this forum.

1. Buy a Brighton
2. Buy a version 3 swap from one of the NASIOC vendors (I can recommend JDM Importers)
3. Strip down the brighton
4. Strip down the version 3
5. Put version 3 stuff into the brighton
6. Buy tools/ask questions as necessary
7. Enjoy!

That's basically what I did, but with a 99 RS. A brighton would be lighter and more cost effective though. Are you doing RHD conversion?

pretty bare bones but correct
the older the impreza, the lighter it will be (as a rule of thumb)...and the brightons are going to be lighter than the other cars of the same year (as a rule of thumb)

There is a fwd parts car for sale on ebay, cheap.

And there are also front clips, but you could most likely get a better and more reliable deal from another importer. ask around, someone should know a good one.

I am speaking from experience now. DO NOT bother attempting to convert a FWD Impreza to a RWD Impreza it is not worth the time and effort to do so. DO NOT buy a AT and convert to MT it is not worth the time or effort to do so. Although it seems like a good idea to buy an old L and a Version 1-3 clip you need to remember that these cars have been on the road sometimes for more then 10 years.

I personally would go with a car that is currently OBDII and put a USDM engine it it if you live in an area where they plug into your OBDII port during your annual inspection. If you're going to go JDM make sure you take your car in for inspection the day before you start pulling the car appart.
