Bear with me while you read this because I have to explain what happened and I will not ramble and keep it short. I just want an opinion based on how you see this from my point of view and maybe you can see why I feel professional negligence was done….. So I go in for consultation for future performance mods. I have a’05 STi that I drove from New Mexico that has a
-Turbo XS Front Mount
- DC Headers
- Helix Downpipe
- Invidia Exhaust
- AEM Short RAM Intake
- Water Injection
Taking my car to Drivers Image in Skokie, IL the owner recommended I get the following
- Greddy 18G Turbo
- A Walbro fuel pump…but ended up with something else
- I needed and I quote “You need this AEM Boost Controller because otherwise you won’t hold boost”
- And I also quote “ No you don’t need bigger than stock fuel injectors because the stock ones will hold up”
- Also you need this boost cut off valve (note to self: Doesn’t UTEC Have one already, yes in fact it does)
This was all done for a hefty $3000.00 OTD Installed.
Here is the outcome. Gregg the owner of Driver’s Image gives me my car and says that he drove it for an hour and it runs really good on 15psi with the boost controller but it runs really jerky at 19psi. Do not run your car at 19psi until you get it tuned.
(the next day)
Took my STi home and drove it on 15psi while having my Dyno appointment at GRD on December 3rd. Well the whole time the car jerks from 15psi to 10….just continuously. So I do what anyone else does is to go back as early as possible. Gregg gets into my car goes for another test drive, takes the car in the back of the shop then drives it in front, then says and I quote again “The car runs fine, it hold boost I fixed it but by the way your # 4 piston is not holding compression”…..and I’m sitting there is awe…did he just say everything runs fine…and then says I will get a good deal on labor if I let him fix the car……….then I question what he said……then says “ well you changed some setting with this boost controller and you blew your motor” I was already like ???????? in my head wondering if this really was happening.
I kept this short and to the point. I am either retarded, dumb, and or confused about my experience. I am building case against them to prove the professional negligence they have caused. I would like to know what you guys think about this….there is something wrong with this picture…… Here is my basic knowledge now that I have done more research…. He sold me a boost cut off valve that the UTEC has built in. He then told me that I need a Boost Controller ($500) to keep boost steady. Note, the UTEC also controls that. Also he left a WRX sparkplug in the blown cylinder…and to top it off yeah, I got ripped off. Big time. My friend went to Factory 5 Motoring and he got a PE1820 turbo, PE9850CC fuel injectors, Greddy headers, inlet pipe, up pipe, HKS exhaust, UTEC, & all installed for $3000.00OTD I am using my friends profile….with NOSIAC because I don’t have one yet. Who else has gone to Driver’s Image in Skokie, IL and had a problem you need to shoot me a PM because if there are enough people screwed over by him I will escalate this to class action. What are your 2 cents?
I already have the burden of proof I need to present my case to them to prove that they are at fault. P&L has looked inside and out of that motor and can prove and will by a certified ASE Technician that based on the actions of Drivers Image, the Boost Controller conflicted with the STi. Also he adjusted the boost controller and the way he did it was at full boost which then popped the piston ring right off.
