Can the turbo legacy ecu be used to run wrx heads on the EJ22t block and what will it take?

I don't think it will work without customization of the cam gears. If I remember correctly, the marks used by the cam position sensor are in different locations. Also, I would guess that the tooth count for the DOHC gears and SOHC gears is different, so I don't think you'll simply be able to use a DOHC cam gear.

I haven't tried it, but we've examined the gears side by side and noticed the difference.

It should be possible to weld timing marks on the gear using a caliper to measure shouldn't it?

Theoretically, yes. :) I would think you would have to remove the original marks. Also, you may have to take into account any size difference in the gears. i.e. 1 rotation of a SOHC gear may not equal 1 rotation of the DOHC intake cam gear.

I'm not saying it isn't possible, but I'm just trying to run through some of the issues. I'm all for experimental verification (on your car). :D

Send a PM to DZX, he is in the middle of doing exactly what Diz suggests...

LoL I am dzx. I'm just trying to get as much information as possible before i start, I sent an email to kelly on the bbs too. I think the cam gears are aluminum aren't they? At first I wasn't sure if the heads would fit in the car period because they look much bigger. But the valve cover on the ej22t heads is way thicker than the one on the wrx heads so they are only about a 1/4 of an inch wider.

As for experimental verification, It's gonna get interesting as soon as classes are out for this semester. I was looking over everything on the heads and its all noticeably bigger than the ej22t head, so it should make some nice power once i get them on and the t3/t4 turned up and tuned.

Well that clears up a lot. I always wondered who this guy from Boulder that I didn't know was...
