Yep. I agree and will put my life on the line on this one.

www.subyspecialties.com is the best!

There is no one in this country with the knowledge that these guys know! I am surprised that they joined the internet late, but they have been around for 15 years, and by joining the internet revolution, who knows what can happen!
I can't wait till there ecommerce section is up. I asked Steve when it would be up, and he told me soon! I think SubySpecialties is now on i-club! They are valuestar.com certified, meaning that they are the pinnacle of customer service! http://www.geocities.com/subyspecialties/vs.html. Anyone going to the meat (bbq) and greet?

I got my 30 k service and my down pipe put on yesterday and let me say, Its the best place to take your car for service. They are great!

i believe this is the worst place ever!

1st experience: I went in to have a pully installed, made an appointment and what not, got quoted for 40 bucks over the phone. I went there 5-10 mins late, and the guy started to give me attitude claiming that the mechanic that was spose to do it had already left. He then put down the amount on the bill for 70.. WTF.. so i tell him.. and goes.. o really? and changes it.

2nd time: I wanted to go in to have my car checked since it was making loud squeeching noises. I arrived at the shop.. no appointment since it was urgent. I walk inside.. three mechanics sitting around.. talking not doing anything, 1 lift unoccupied. I asked them if they can take a look at my car, i didnt expect them to work on it or anything, just to diagnose the problem, and he answered with that i had to make an appointment, so i was waiting and wondering when and where i could make an appointment but no one gives me a response. One of the mechanics then gets up off his seat and hands me a business card since i was just standing there, and says that i should call at least 2 weeks in advance to have my car checked out!!!!

I dont know if its because of my age and the car i drive it seemed that Suby Specialties really disappointed me. THey were no where friendly and not even eager to help out a fellow suby owner.

^^ I don't know where you have been to, but that does not sound like Suby Specialties at all.

1) The only one that quotes you is Steve, and the only one that charges you is Steve.

Would any of you know how much they charge for instalation fees in general? And also if they do allignments and how much? i called a few times but they're pretty busy. I left a message as well, but figured maybe i could get a quote from the people who have been there.

Cant even trust Suby specialties in Monrovia!
I had a engine swap done in the last week of december and got my car back on Dec 30th and ever since the next day I got the car back I had problems with the car throwing a cel. When I called them and informed them of this I also let them know that I was going to pick
the engine up.They told me that I could pick it up anytime after jan 4th.After then I posted the engine on here for sale and needed someone to pick it up with the purchase because I didnt have a truck or time to pick it up.I got someone that was interested a couple of weeks ago
So I got my cousins friend to let us borrow a truck and when I was heading to the shop I called them to let them know I was on my way and.. I Steve told me over the phone that the only thing that was left from my engine was the intake manifold....:diaf:

I told him I have sold the engine and it was supposed to be picked up this saturday and he didnt care.I told him if he could help me out for the sale lost at least and he refused.I gave him the last resort and told him I would have to file a police report and he said "go ahead, thats fine":unamused:

He could of at the very least called me to tell me he was giving away my engine ,he had my cell phone number !!!:furious:

blahhblahh
03-08-2008, 04:43 PM
why wouldn't you take it with you after the swap? There's no reason that they would need to hold on to it unless they were selling it.

because it was the holiday season so they were closed for a week.

You should have taken the motor with you. Also this should be posted in the review or regional section.

I had no way of picking this up because I just started my new job and only days off for my first 90 days were sat and sunday and they only open monday thru thursday.

Yea they could have at least asked you first.

Sounds like you never called them either. You basically used their shop to store your engine for a couple months. "Anytime after Jan. 4" isn't the same thing as "leave it here as long as you want to". Yeah, selling it without calling you was a dick thing to do, but I'd say you should have made more of an effort too.

I agree that I took longer than expected but he could of at least called me and left a voicemail saying im selling your engine tommorow or something more courteous.

I believe they are open Tuesday through Saturday. So between Jan. 4th and now you couldn't find one day to pick it up? If you were so concerned about the engine, then you shoud've rented a truck and picked it up. That seems like a pretty long time for them to store your stuff for free. I don't blame SS for just getting rid of it if it has been sitting around the shop taking up space for 2 months.

suby specialties has prety good reputation here in socal ....i really dont see why they should be responsible to hold your engine all this time .Did you have some sort of writen agreement , yea didnt think so ....

And why the hell is this in the general community , have you ever hear of scic chapter?

Yeah, if they sell, part out, or trash something of yours without first telling you, that's no good. It's like leaving your cell phone at a friends house, only to find that they sold it on ebay.

It is in SCIC chapter also,I just wanted to hear what all ppl thought about this.

Im not saying that they dont have a good rep thats why I went there twice and recommended them. What I am saying is why couldnt they handle this differently ,and not treat one of their customers like this.

you abandoned it.

robsta1
03-08-2008, 06:25 PM
Both made mistakes... but in the end if SS sold it, they should give at least some money back to the owner of the motor.

This is a customer who just spent a good amount of money at your shop. Butttttt... if business is keeping busy Freak it right? ;)

Give the dude back some change and lets call it a day.

Edit: I messed up they gave it away. I still think he should get something. Maybe a nice coupon for the next service

inevitable_101

You need to talk to a lawyer about the rules in your state. Unless they have a printed policy about when items at the store must be picked up and what notice they will give, he may be liable for the value, if any, of the parts/engine. There may be a state law also that outlines how long you have to pick them up.

shoulda never left the engine there. i would have sold it too.

dibblejr
03-08-2008, 08:09 PM
He should not have left the engine there, agreed. However, the shop should have contacted him and said "dude when you gonna pick up your motor" and "if you dont get it by (date) we will get rid of it. The customer is always right, policy.

I would call it a loss and not recommend them to anyone again.

You both made mistakes, but the worst mistake was by the tuner/ shop.

IMHO

I would take some sort of legal action. . I cant beleive so many people are defending this company. Yeah he should have acted sooner however they should have advised him that they would be selling of parts unless he picked it up by a certain time.

Well looking at the calendar it was there about 30 business days and then he sold it.So it wasnt 2 months.I called him on the march 6th and he told me he had got rid of it 2 weeks prior .So its right around 30 business days or less that he had it at his shop.

Your are an idiot. Did he have written agreement that they could sell his engine? No didn't think so. If the story that he is telling is true then that is very lame, I would be pissed. Make sure you go through with civil action if they decide to not pay reparations.

u need legal advice, most shop charge u storage fees after "cretain" days, I am not sure if they have the right to sell your engine/property, however they could bill u for the storage fee. if you think the engine worth some money then definally contact a attorney.

i know they're good with engines and blocks, but how is their subaru transmission work?
more specifically, RA transmission builds..

I had my Crawford S2 block, custom turbo kit and xs front mount installed at Suby Specialties by Steve.
He did great work on the car and I even left a lot of my stock parts there and he kept them for me.
I went back for them over 2 months later, and he still had them. (front bumper support, tmic (i gave that to him), all my exhaust piping, my old parts (turbo, cams, etc.)

my engine is dead now :( oiling issue, but I wouldn't hesitate taking my car back to Steve.
