View Full Version : IS the 7500 mile Maintenance Check Worth It?
jzinckgra 09-06-2001, 08:39 AM I got some mail about my 7500 mile maintenance check coming up. I haven't called the dealer to ask specifically what they are going to do, but I assume check hoses, tranny, etc. Is is really worth the cost and how much is it? I know.....call the dealer and find out. I will, but sometimes I just think those early maintenance checks are a big rip off. Just curious if anyone has done theirs yet. Thanks
JoeBloggz23 09-06-2001, 09:18 AM hi,
i'm going in for 7500 service soon! From what I have got in the mail and from looking at he service manual! The service consists of, oil/filter change, check/adjust all fluids, rotate and balance tires, chassis lubrication, Multi-point safety inspection, which includes, wipers, lights, signals, brakes, exhaust, steering & suspension!! I left out a few minor details, but that is the jist of it. Dealer also sent me a coupon for the service, $35.00, regular price, $55.00, which is, of course, the dealer trying to make it sound like they are doing me a favor. In any case $35.00 sounds quite resonable to me!!

orbit03 09-06-2001, 09:28 AM $35 seems worth spending the money vs the time to do it yourself. At the $55 regular price, I would do it myself.
I did the 7,500 mile stuff myself. Took me about 30 minutes.
Dexter 09-06-2001, 09:50 AM Pfft. My cost was $75 dollars. I think I was ripped off. I wonder if they did the inspection and lube....I doubt it.
harrydog 09-06-2001, 10:33 AM If you don't mind changing the oil yourself, I would not bother going to the dealer for the 7500 mile service. Maybe the 15K service and definitely the 30K service. Is there even anything to lube on the chassis?
fudosan 09-06-2001, 11:22 AM Should the service not be free? I mean it is under warranty and you did spend quite a bit of money at their dealership. I was under the impression that the service would be free.
bluesubie 09-06-2001, 11:30 AM Have the maintenance performed according to the manual. Is it just an oil change and tire rotation? Tell the dealer that's what you want. Any more is overkill, IMO. Dealers love those unnecessary add-ons. Better yet, DIY. Oil changes are very easy.
fudosan, nope not free. It's unfortunate that wasn't clear to you when you bought the car.

fudosan 09-06-2001, 02:53 PM Yea I was right. I just called my dealer and my first service is free of charge. I was happy about that!
bluesubie 09-06-2001, 04:04 PM Oh. First service. :)

DeliciouSpeed 09-06-2001, 04:29 PM Did that crap myself, and do it every month. I am anal about my cars performance and longevity.

jzinckgra 09-10-2001, 10:44 AM uhmm, i just called my dealer and they said it would be $85 to do this maintenance. I told the guy I'll pass and to just schedule me for the oil change. i mean, really.... $85 to change the oil, rotate the tires and maybe lube the chassis and check brakes? I'll pass
sorny 09-10-2001, 11:31 AM I only have about 900 miles on my WRX so far and figure that I'll be getting the same mailings too about oil changes and stuff. I've always changed the oil on my other cars and was wanting to do it myself on this car. I live about an hour away from the closest Subaru dealership and places like Wal-Mart Tire & Lube just don't attract my business. I don't like having 16 y/o kids changing the oil on my brand new car. I'm only 19, but I've seen some of the bad work done at my local Wal-Mart (ex. oil filter not tighened, etc.). This is the first car I've owned with a warranty, so if I change the oil myself, what do I need to document or keep to make sure the dealer can't void my warranty if I don't go to them?
malelee21 09-10-2001, 12:58 PM Any one of you guys have aftermarket parts? Did suby dealer say anything neg. about them? I only have minor mods like BOV and kartboy shifter and wonder if they will say something.
Stanley 09-10-2001, 01:15 PM Sorny,
you're smart not letting the dudes as Wal-Mart work on your car. If you've ever changed oil before, you'll appreciate how easy it is to do on this car. I have a fumotovalve and can do an oil change in my driveway with no tools - don't even have to jack up the car!
Zahnster 09-10-2001, 02:02 PM Just got my 7500 today(with 9000 on the odo :o)
I didn't pay a thing. But then, I've got Added Security. All services up to and including 30K covered.

I never did have Wal-Mart even touch my car. I just heard from a guy that used to work in the Electronics section at Wal-Mart that some people have brought cars back saying that the filter leaked because it was loose. I've done oil changes on all 6 of the cars I have owned in the last few cars and most of them were 1987 or older, so they were fairly easy to do. How did you not have to jack up the car? You can't be telling me that you could change it from under the hood. I'm a pretty big guy, big enough so that I could only get an arm under the car anyways without getting the floor jack out.
boppo_monkey 09-10-2001, 09:55 PM Was I ripped off?! My 7500 mile maintenance cost me $140!
Sergeant_V 09-10-2001, 10:48 PM Yup, you got hosed.
