I've noticed alot of people posting that their cars have been broken into, stolen, or almost stolen recently. Do you think that the increased advertising and sales of Subarus may be causing this? Should I start looking at alarm systems? I've never had a car I owned broken into before, but there's a first time for everything, right?

I would look into alarms if I were you. I have a serious aftermarket alarm and my PIAA side turn signal blinkers were stolen. I was in a club and by the time I got to my car they were gone. People are just jealous and want to screw up other people's ride's. If you decide an aftermarket alarm is for you spend a little money and get a top of the line viper alarm.

Get the "Unbrakeable Autolock", they won't steal it at least.

My car alarm kills the ignition when it's armed. I really like that feature.

I know it's not foolproof, but it will delay the thief a bit at least. Hopfully long enough for me to grab my bat and head out to the car ... ;)

As soon as we can get a law passed that says anyone who steals/attempts to steal/vandalizes/breaks into a car can be killed on sight.. we won't have that problem anymore. Then I won't have to spend $600 on a darn alarm to keep people from stealing my car or it's contents. I'm writing my congressman...:p

When we picked up my car from the dealership, the saleswoman asked, "So where are you folks going after you leave here?"

"The one thing I'm telling all of our clients. Before you fill the next tank of gas, go and get an alarm installed in your car, we've had a number of reports of this car being stolen within days after they leave the showroom. Probably due to their limited numbers."

It was two days before we could schedule an appointment for an alarm to be installed. Until then, the car was locked in our garage. Based on all of the reports on the forum, I would recommend to everyone that if you don't have an alarm already go out and have one installed.

I had an alarm installed before I took delivery of the car- however the only reason I did this is for the insurance cut- ok and maybe a little peice of mind. but if they want it that bad- they can have it, just better not let me see them with it, or they be in a world of hurt.

luckily I'm right there where I work and it's in a somewhat secluded location- as for home, right outside the window- with a heavy armament of assorted blades at my disposal- including a claymore:D - bloody thing is larger than my father- no joking

no alarm will stop a smart & determined theif, but i went with the factory security upgrade (dual stage with engine kill) because most theives aren't both of the above.

along with good insurance coverage, ya can't do much better. i love my car, but it ain't worth killing or dying for.

I have a rapier in my living room..damn thing has a point like you wouldn't believe...of course, I'd rather just bash someone over the head with the hilt...Just so much more satisfying...;)

We can use deadly force, at night, to protect home and property loss. If people would stop ****ing crying for all the goddamn criminals (It's just a car, that is what insurance is for, bla ****ing bla), then maybe it would decrease. I collect firearms, have several years training, prior Allied Mobile Force soldier and Desert Storm vet. I am tired of the liberal media and government protecting criminals. yep, I remember awhile back that someone said in Australia.. wrx is THE MOST stolen vehicle AND have the highest accidental rate. I guess we are just following their footsteps. Now my insurance is going to go up again, that will suck..

From what I know, factory installed alarms are the best because they usually offer a feature that kills the engine when someone tries to steal it. I don't know of any aftermarket one that has such a feature.

On my old 1999 Maxima, the ignition had a sensor that would only start if it sensed the computer chip inside the ignition key. It worked too. Someone had taken the ignition to steal the car one night and he couldn't. However, the thief got what he wanted. While I was walking my dog that morning, I stood gaping in disbelief - the front passenger door was completely gone! I stood there staring at that gaping space for about 5 mnutes before it registered. The responding sergeant just laughed, he'd never seen anything like it. There wasn't even a scratch around the door's frame, as though he had all the time in the world to take it off. Right in front of my apartment!

I won't even get into how the hubcaps on that car were stolen the third night I had the damn thing!:p

I have an aftermarket alarm with an engine kill switch. And aftermarket alarms are better because you have more options for what you can have them do. A factory installed alarm usually has a low sensitivity were a aftermarket you can make it go off when a bird farts 10 feet above your car!!

Only thing is, here in Illinois, I'd be in jail 10X longer for cracking the guy in the knee with a bat than he would be for stealing my car. Damn liberals.. I have a little hatch in the rear seat that lets my trunk monkey attack anyone trying to drive the car other than me. Hard to train the little buggers though.

It is said that in Australia every WRX sold will be stolen once in its life...... My friend bought one, went from the dealer to the petrol station to get fuel... Went in to pay cam back out and the car was gone.... This is one reason that the WRX is one of the most expensive cars in Australia to insure... My insurance company wont insure you if you have one unless you are over the age of 30

Man, that really sucks.. Is there a car-theft problem in Austrailia in general, or do people just really like to steal WRX's?

People just like to steal WRX's.... It is because the cops cant keep up with them, so they steal them for ram raids and stuff..... That was until the sydney police got 3 wrx's of their own....

3 entriely different incidents... BLOWN OUT OF PERPORTION!!!
