View Full Version : She's coming out of storage soon

My beloved RS is going to be brought out of storage in a month and 8 days. I've had them start the car once a month and it's been covered, but I have one question for anyone who's ever had a car in storage.

Am I going to need new tires? I've heard that leaving a car sit for months at a time will cause the tires to develop flat spots or something like that. Any truth to that? I know it should have been up on jackstands, but I didn't really have a choice, so don't say it.

It's going to suck if I get back to the states after 4 1/2 months looking forward to driving my car and not being able to get it off the lot. :(

Well, you should be able to drive it, but you will most likely have flat spots, yes. I don't know exactly as I've never dealt with it before, but it may come out through driving it, or giving it a bit more air while driving it. Whether or not it'll ever go back to perfect, I have no idea.

Every time I had to store my car for six months I had flat spots when I returned. They'll be annoying and make the car shudder, depending on how bad they are, but they will go away over time. Lower your tire pressure a bit and drive fast for a while, get them to heat up, the flat spots will go away quicker.

Deployments suck my ass. Glad I'm done.

You will definetly have flat spots. I hope you have the stock RE-92's on there :)

As already pointed out, yes, you'll have flat spots, and yes, they'll go away with a couple heat cycles.

In the future, put the car up on jack stands to prevent flat spots. Why didn't you do that this time? ;)

Dumb skimmers....

besides jackstands, if you get deployed again just fill the tank up as full as you can, put in some fuel stabilizer, and change the oil. combustion by-products in oil are what causes moisture and rust in it, this can't happen if you have spanking-new, never fired oil in the crankcase.

and then don't fire it at all until you get back. it'll be good for up to a year or two with this simple storage method.

Shaddup with your shore tours, sir. I'm a first tour, unqualified SWO divo, so there's not much I can do about that. But how many ensigns do you know who share a room with one other person and live in O-4 berthing with their owh head? I do.:D

Anyhoo, the car's not on jackstands because I only had time to drop it off at the NEX lot in Norfolk.

And I'd be careful about calling anyone a dumb skimmer. I've met some sub folks, and I thought the people from the Academy had deficient social skills...Whoa! You guys are really messed up.

I guy I know from high scholl was on a sub for a few tours and he told me that they got so bored that some other ship mates bet him he wouldn't poop in his own hands!

Well, he did

Another time he took a bet to "pleasure himself" in front of a crowd. . .

And, he did

For 20 bucks no less...

this reminds me of Back to the Future 3, when they dig up the daloren (however you spell it)
once you take off the cover, the impreza will be there waiting for you to take her out for nice long ride. Sweet.:D :D :D

That plus these great 25-30hour work weeks (with real live set hours) make for great QOL.

Hmmmm... Dumb stuff while submerged...

For a total pot of around $130, an E-8 bet an E-5 he could eat more horseradish sauce... They sat down, split a 2-pound jar of horseradish sauce... The senior was like a damn machine - ate all of his, a spoonful of the other guys, wiped his mouth w/a $20 bill and left the table. Another time the same senior chief ate an entire cube of butter for $10.

Speaking of poop, there was that one guy that *always* seemed to have a problem with people using his cup as a head...
