chanyeehon 12-09-2005, 09:24 PM ok i just found out i can choose from H1 and D2R
what type, brand name, should i be looking at? i heard hella is good..
can i go over 100w, or stay at 55w
please help.
thx in advance
amarpauld 12-10-2005, 01:08 AM all i know is hella's are nice and cheap but don't last as long (usually, and this problem can be resolved with the warranty but can just be a hassle at times), PIAA is generally overpriced but seems to last quite a bit longer
Mulder 12-10-2005, 01:15 AM Your low beam bulbs are H1. You can't "choose" any other type as long as you have the factory headlights. D2R is an HID bulb that is used in OEM HID reflector housings such as the STi lights, those will not fit in your car.
You should not install any bulbs that are over the stock wattage of 55W, if you do so the wiring may be damaged from the excessive heat that will result. For improved lighting at the 55W rating you can use bulbs such as Osram Silverstars, Narva Rangepower or Philips Vision Plus. These bulbs are not available in stores so you need to find them online. There are threads in the Electrical and Lighting forum discussing this subject, you can search for them.
f4phantomii 12-10-2005, 08:28 AM Others to look for are the HIR (not HID) lights.
These may be tough to find as well, and supposedly Toshiba is the only licensed manufacturer. But light output is supposed to be up to 75% more than standard Halogen of the same wattage. And the color temps are closer to HID's.
I've been thinking of trying them, but they are fairly expensive....still cheaper than switching to the HID conversion kit though.

Mulder 12-10-2005, 09:45 AM The HIR bulbs (H11 type) will replace the 9005 high beam only. There is no HIR replacement for the H1 low beam.

Correction, its SYLVANIA Silverstars and Wal-Mart carries the duel package for $38. I just installed mine and fog lamps and im pretty happy with them
skyhawk 12-10-2005, 04:13 PM Osram Silverstars are better then Sylvania Silverstars. Osram's can only be found online, not in any store that I'm aware of. You can find the Osrams on ebay, along with Narva, which I am using now.

Curious about what stores have them, since the Osram Silverstars are not a US market product which is why they usually are only found online.
waktasz 12-10-2005, 05:10 PM The sylvania silverstars are some corner blue tinted bulbs to similate HIDs aren't they? The osrams are much better. Also, +1 on HIR high beams :)
skyhawk 12-10-2005, 05:21 PM sdogg-- chill out man. We are all here to help each other out. No need to tell someone they don't know what they are talking about. Just let them know that you believe they are wrong or ask them to clarify themselves. I wasn't saying you were talking about Sylvania, if I was I would have quoted you. I was letting the poster of the question know there is a difference between Osram and Sylvania if he didn't already know.
I have never seen Osrams in stores or heard of anyone buying them from anywhere but online, as Mulder said, they are not a US market item, and I don't think they are DOT approved (could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time). If you did buy Osrams in a local store, you are lucky, none of the stores around here carry them, but what can you expect for Mississippi LOL.
waktasz-- +2 for the HIR, I'm also running them for my high beams.

But there are two stores in my area that import parts for german cars mostly and they carry them for 80 bucks though:furious:.

Before I had projectors I ran the philips xtravision which is 30% brighter since they didnt have the vision plus in 9007. Also waaay brighter than stock.
