View Full Version : new low beam, fog and parking light bulbs installed *pic*
sleestak6326 12-10-2005, 08:20 PM I finally got all my new bulbs installed today. I have Phillips low beams, LED parking lights and yellow fogs. I think they look good and they will hold me over till I can get HID's.

mike_b49431 12-10-2005, 10:52 PM what kind of bulbs are they, i know you said phillips bulbs. but do they have a specific name, how much are they and do you have a link to them..
thanks,
mike
sleestak6326 12-11-2005, 03:05 AM They are Philips Blue Vision. I got them at Auto Zone. I think they were $30 for the pair.
garie 12-11-2005, 07:38 AM aah..I've always wondered what the blue vision bulbs looked.
any pics shining on a wall or something?
mike_b49431 12-11-2005, 01:15 PM Is there a noticable improvement over the stock bulbs. Also, I looked in my manual and it says i need a D2R bulb. Is there a bulb thats compatible with it? Or is it just a subaru thing? There is a auto zone in Denver which is about 45 minutes away and i figured i would get a list of stuff to get from there before i made the trip.
Let me know
sleestak6326 12-11-2005, 01:47 PM I think the D2R bulb is for the STI HID's. I'm not sure what the regular halagon bulb size is on the 05's. I will get a pic of the light output against a wall this evening.
turbo tecnica 12-11-2005, 06:13 PM Are those yellow fog bulbs or did you use a film over the lens?

mike_b49431 12-11-2005, 09:23 PM Well my owners manual says that i need a D2R bulb. What size bulb goes in the low beam of an 05 impreza RS?
Handsdown 12-11-2005, 09:43 PM H1, you're not reading the chart in the manual correctly. a simple search would reveal the answer to your question.
back on topic, the lights look great.
mike_b49431 12-12-2005, 02:18 PM I finally got a chance to get to walmart and get a pair of silverstars and what an improvement. I'm very happy with them, the only thing is, those bulbs are a pain in the a$$ to replace. The battery is in the way on one side, and then the air thing, and a little electric motor thing, no idea what it's for, was in the way. but worth it if you ask me...
InfamousDX 12-14-2005, 07:23 PM wow nice low beams!
Farnsrocket 12-14-2005, 07:48 PM Where did you get the LED parking bulbs?

Type1 12-15-2005, 02:35 AM just so you know....sylvania silverstars or any of those cheap hyperwhite, hyperblue, hid look etc., bulbs are the headlight bulb equivalnet to jdm rice.
Yeah they may LOOK brighter when staring directly at them and they may LOOK like hid headlights cause of the hyper white or blue tint but they are proven to cast ALOT LESS visible light on the road and even less light in bad weather...i.e rain, snow, wet roads, etc...
Do a search for phillips hi-visibility or osram bulbs...You can find the phillips in some local k-marts but the osrams need to be bought online from any european dealership or ebay of course. The hi-visibility cast 30% more light and osrams cast %50...that is why the osram are not sold in the US cause they are technically illegal cause they are too bright. I have the phillips and although they look more popcorn yellow when directly stared at they cast way more light. I also stuck piaa yellow bulbs in my fogs and they work tons better in snow and rain. Some other alternatives for the fogs are called narva golds but are only available overseas again.
hope this helps.
MBasile 12-15-2005, 02:38 AM looks good, took me a second to figure out what kind of car it was on :D
yellow fogs are definitely the best...funtional too! I'm going to replace my fogs with some hella 500 yellows

just so you know, i put silverstars in my anti-rice 04 WRX because the stock bulbs were so dull, and i noticed a huge difference in visibility in all weather conditions. i am sure there are better, more expensive options out there, but for the money the white silverstars are hands down better than the stock bulbs.
hope this helps.

Are you sure your perceived difference was not a placebo effect? Technically speaking, the silverstars would have less light output since it's filtering out certain wavelengths to make it a whitish appearance. But if you do see a positive difference, then more power to your purchase. I've personally see the silverstars and was not impressed.

Can you show me the proof? I am not doubting you completely, but I hear this often and never see any proof.

i would be unimpressed with the silverstars, too, if i was used to those monsters in your sti. i can see much farther down the road now, and with greater clarity. simple as that.
WRX_02_227 12-15-2005, 09:26 PM Are the fogs just bulb replacements that are yellow or new lights entirely?

They are just bulb replacements.
pdxsilverwrx 12-15-2005, 11:31 PM Looks good, don't let the haters get you down.

ha ha thanks
WRX_02_227 12-17-2005, 03:05 PM Hey sleestak6326.... I saw your thread on ClubWRX about these lights and where you got the fog bulbs. Did you get the 100 watt H3 bulbs? If you did you better be careful you harness doesn't melt. Stock is 55 watts.
What size bulbs fit in the foglights? I need to get a pair for for a Christmas gift. I don't want to get caught tearing my son's car apart to get the bulb size.
Thanks

The bulbs are 100 watt. I'm a little worried about it. They have been in about 2 weeks now and no problems. I might order some 55 watt bulbs just to be safe.
